I'm looking at a 2017 SR5 with the stock touchscreen. I have Bluetooth off, and there's nothing else that should be broadcasting (no wifi, no DCM). When I turn the key and get the welcome screen, I get a spike of RF and then nothing else. Anyone know what it's doing at power-up? Is this a self-test, or did I miss turning something off that could be the source of this? Thanks!

I m not even sure what an rf spike is let alone how you know it is one.

When you say a "spike of RF" are you using a spectrum analyzer to determine this?

@Saltyhero13 - I'm using an RF meter designed specifically for measuring wireless signal strength. For comparison, and not surprising, it's far worse on a new Tundra. Even after you turn off everything Toyota gives you the ability to turn off, that DCM module appears to still communicate every minute like clockwork - causing a 2-3 second spike every minute (and that appears to continue for a couple of minutes even after the truck is off, then it stops).

You can opt out of it in your app/account privacy settings but I'm not 100% sure it will stop all comms with your vehicle. I'm not even sure where the module is to remove it/them.

To some it does. I can't speak for the OP but some folks don't like involuntary data collection

Is that what the OP is implying that he thinks is going on?

How can they collect Data from the truck? Cellular connection?

Correct. If you have a Tundra with Connected Services you can get a gauge for what they are collecting by reading through their consent agreement. It includes vehicle health, status and other telemetrics.

I corrected my post. The most invasive is the insurance they offer. They rate you on your turning, braking, and acceleration.

Yeah well I NEVER agree to any of that stuff.
I install TVs and will not agree to that on my own,No Alexa,No Siri,No monitoring of any kind if I can tell it is going on of course.
Guess I dodged that bullet and didn't even know it.

Several vehicles ago my insurance co. offered a lower premium if I connected a device to my car to monitor my driving. I chose the higher premium. But this makes me wonder if my 07 Tundra has any of these.I don t have any services that I know of.

If the 07s offer Wifi services it is possible they are pulling telemetrics. I don't know what model year these subsystems were integrated in.
