For grins I looked the Universal Toyota and Red McCombs Toyota, both in San Antonio, have one in stock according to their website. I know Universal was not showing that a couple days ago.

A dealer almost always will TAKE a refundable deposit - keep in mind that open, non binding deposit works both ways. It works in your favor if you change your mind- and there's if they can't deliver.

The first dealer was likely misinformed or blowing smoke on "non refundable" (or both). What happens when it's Dec 31 and they still can't deliver a Pro in any color ? They have to buy you one and resell at sticker no matter the cost ?!? Not happening...they will conveniently find it was a refundable deposit.

Alot of dealers will "show" things on their site to get you in the door. Most are "just a few weeks out" - or "just sold". See prior allocation threads - dealers take the deposit on Pros to show they are going to consumers - Toyota distributors prioritize pre sold as they want the trucks in consumer hands and not dealer showrooms or Floorplan.

I know of a dealer in Ohio who has 2 supposedly due for May OP..if you want a name PM for name/email. Have build sheet with VIN on both and was told 3rd week in May - but things change of course. I have a deposit with then I'm pulling when mine comes in locally (changed mind on color).

As we get closer to MY changeover - there will likely be less and less places taking deposits...some of course will take a deposit - but their ability to deliver is still gonna be reduced. The "component" shortage never really applied to Pros in my opinion - the critical components short were blind spot sensors - not available on a Pro. Of course that doesn't mean demand is not at an all time high, production isn't struggling to keep constant production or other things just aren't getting delayed causing line production issues in this "just in time delivery" manufacturing line world.

I would call, put a deposit, and fly to the closest dealership that has one and drive it back. The closest TRD Pro to me was 2hrs away and it went fast.

All 3 are listed as "In transit" and "Sold" on their website. Probably ones that were ordered and pre-sold.
