Good morning! I’m throwing a question here, so hopefully somebody has an idea of what’s going on. My 2007 4x4 tundra has 170k miles. In great shape, runs and drives well. Recently but not every day there’s been a growl coming from what seems to be the front end, usually seems to happen between 25-45 mph. Can hear it occasionally at lower mph and coming to a stop. It does not do this in 4x4. Sometimes I’ll take it out of 4x4 and It’ll start doing it. Sometimes I’ll take it out of 4x4 and I won’t hear a thing. It’s been going on for a year now intermittently like I explained. Or had the bearings, u joints, transfer case, front and rear diff, tranny all checked with new fluids and new grease for regular maintenance and nothing has changed. It hasn’t gotten worse but any better. Any ideas? Thanks guys!

Sounds like needle bearing. I changed mine about year ago. Check out ECGS needle bearing replacement.

Ok I will look into it. Thank you. How is the process changing it out? Pretty straight forward?

They have a good video on how to do it, and the little puller tool they sell is also very helpful. It may be a good precaution to also order a pre-pressed front hub just in case before you start (there's a guy on eBay who sells pre-pressed Koyo hubs at a reasonable price). My axle didn't want to come out of my front hub, and getting it out ruined the bearing in the process.

It is only on the drivers side. Pretty easy to diagnose now isn’t it?:D

Mine went out on my 2012 CM at around 60k (and I may had some other problems in the diff). Under warranty the complete differential was replaced.
