What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yeah. Nothing like a Pro Job for great results. Around here it be over a $1k for that side doink repair and without truck for days. I think I had about less than $200 total with the Bondo, Sand Paper (found on street), 4 cans of paint, 3 Clear Coat, Tape, etc.

She passes the 15’ test so I’m happy.

 

Nice. You can do the PHM Jumper Mod. Check my build page. One push turns on both lights. I discovered this as an after thought when adding Aluminum Foil Tape inside the Map Light Cavity for better reflectivity (after removing those metal bezels like you’ve done). I sizzled the switch on one side (accidental short with a bad Hand Move) and it stopped working so I added a jumper wire over to that side so its a one push scenario now.


Works differently when both switches are operational so you’ll only operate one side (one push on one side). If one of the switches is sizzled it doesn’t matter what side you push.

Today I’m frustrated yet again with work I had a mechanic do in the past. Steering rack bushing have play so changing out with Total Chaos poly bushings. Turns out my mechanic put one of the bolts in from the wrong end when they changed my steering rack and sway bar. Gotta take the sway bar off just to remove this bolt.

 

I'm almost certain that's how mine was too. I think they just come that way.

 

Maybe, what do I know but the YouTube video I watched changing out the original bushings had the bolt the other way... where there’s plenty of room for the bolt to come out.

 

They do not. Factory is opposite at least on 2002.

 

Yeah. I’ve corrected quite a bit of Goofy Mechanics repairs on my truck, as well. Its highly frustrating to say the least.

 

Atleast this one isn’t as damaging as the slip yoke incident

 

TPMS light came on a week ago. Mine is a 2006 DC, I decided to try and disable it by cutting the pink/silver wire and grounding it. Worked like a champ. I cut the wire and ran it thru a 3 way switch then to ground. The other leg of the switch, I ran the wire back up to the harness, completing the circuit like it was factory. Now in bypass mode, no light. In the mode that completes the circuit, I have a flashing TPMS light. In the "center" switch position (open circuit)I have a steady on TPMS light.

I have a tire pressure gauge, I rotate and inspect my own tires and I look at my tires every time I get in/out of the truck. I'm not going thru the hassle and expense of fixing this on a 15 year old truck. Just like the check engine light for the secondary air injection pump. Sometimes delete is the best option.

I had to pull the radio, I couldn't get my fat hands thru the glove box side. A little tight and awkward but well worth the effort.

I don't trust much of what I read on the internet, especially when it comes to cutting a wire and grounding it. I put a 2 amp fuse in the wire I grounded. I hate the smell of hot electrical smoke.

 

It’s possibly just the batteries in the sensors. I don’t know that they are expected to last much longer than 15 years.

 

Spark plugs & air filter (to get free shipping) arrived. Wanted to verify gap on plugs, got out owners manual & it says my truck uses the double top plugs, not traditional single. So I ordered the wrong plugs for my truck. looked at rusty bolts on my ignition coils & said - nope. Aint gonna be the one to snap off one of those bolt heads.

So I changed my air filter. Opened up the case & looked at the filter & saw it was purdy & clean. Thought I - great, didn't need it, another fail. Took it out anyway realizing I was looking at the engine side of the filter. Joy - filter was dirty. Can't see it in the picture, but it's got leaves caught up in it plus the dirt. So - all in all, changed my air filter. Small victories.

Used the shop vac to blow out the engine bay since I was having 'successes'. LOL.

 

Not exactly what you were talking about but here’s what I did to mine. I only got the first coat laid down and then had to stop. There’s some areas in the grey that need to be blended before I go too far. Plus I gotta outline around the graphic to hide some of that I white primer overspray. Wasn’t the best tape job.

What brand are your covers?

 

PO lived on gravel. I did the bed rails last year but the bumper was forever dirty. The dust was about 3/4" thick under here.
Pulled the shell to clean the winter firewood mess out. The black glass has salt on it from the trip to CO.
The springs have settled to 23 1/4" now.

The shell is hanging from the rack in the garage. I will report back if it is on the floor in the morning.

You should be able to take off you front bumper in 15 minutes to work behind it. IIRC it’s something like 4 bolts. I also remember some bumper shock mounts I had to loosen or remove.

 

Used it and the Tacoma today on the farm... fun stuff coming Tuesday (new tractor and my uncles 04 tundra)

 

Applied Solution Finish to the plastic trim around the bed and bumpers. Wow, this stuff works.

 

Changed my transmission fluid... 4 times. Drained my 2wd trans pan and it measured as 3.1 quarts.

Used a total 4 quarts of WS and two gallon bottles of the Valvoline Maxlife ATF.

Also used my homebrew pressurized fluid filler setup I built this week. Worked great.

Thanks! I can't take credit for the miles. The previous owner was the original purchaser and just had Grease Monkey perform routine maint. I picked it up with 346K on the clock and it needed a lot of help.

Washed the truck today. Then took it on the highway to dry it off.

Got my insurance bills the other day. Same coverage, the Tundra costs $30/year more than the 1 year older Tacoma. Huh. Tundra is so much bigger & heavier.

 

Tell me about it. My insurance has been the same with full collision and comprehensive since 2008-2009. I think with the Tacoma (if it’s newer) it’s all the extra safety features that bring down the cost.
