Cat removal issue

This is going to come as a surprise but I have an issue... working on taking cats off and everything was going great till this one nut decided to throw a tantrum when it was almost off. I figured the outer threads of the bolt were damaged and powering the nut through would straighten things out. I was wrong.

So now I have a nut that has ripped through the threads and is spinning on the bolt... I can’t remove this Fkr. Kicker, the bolt is part of the exhaust manifold.

Not sure what my path forward is here...

Can you cut the nut off with a dremel? Maybe chase the threads on the bolt?

For some strange reason when I saw the title I thought you had a cat infestation issue.

 

If the stud is no good then cut it. Get it off the truck then drill the hole out and pass a bolt through.

 

That’s a good idea! It’s basically the tip of the bolt ruin my project. Let’s give it a try...

Got it. Couldn’t fit the dremel in there or any other cutting tool. Used a crowbar to push the cat, to push the nut out.

 

Lol. They already did. These are cheapie aftermarket cats that went bad in less than 2 yrs. guess that’s what $600 installed for both gets you. Then again they did what I needed at the time

For future reference, if you don't have one of these, they're a great investment. I have one I bought about 50 years ago. I haven't used it a lot, but it's paid for itself every time I did. Just put it on the nut, tighten, and remove the nut when it splits. Once in a while you'll have to cut the nut into two or three pieces, but it's still better than fighting it off other ways.

 

Are we gonna have to start a mangler crew?

 

Leave it in a sparsely used parking lot for a week. Some nice person will come by during one of the nights and cut it off for you.

 

We’ve been totaling cars left and right at work due to cat theft. Insurance won’t pay for them most of the time. Thieves will get what’s coming to them

 

Totalling? Are aftermarket cats not an option for these?

Sounds like this might be similar to the times when people were stripping copper from job sites left and right when the economy wasn't so bueno.

 

Dealership life means no aftermarket unless they’re ok with no warranty.


Most will go get aftermarket. But “totalling” means no repair etc to us.
