I often leave my truck at trailheads or jeep roads for many days while backpacking. What would be your choice of securing the truck in this scenario?

I just lock mine and hope for the best. My carhauler trailer is always hooked up to it as well so I always worry that the trailer is going to be gone when I get back. I have low deductible insurance and hope for the best!

Take the MAF. When I was younger my mom use to take off the distro cap and plugs.... so they took her friend's car

probably wouldn't be the worst idea to pull a battery cable

I always worry about that too. Especially in my area where trucks are more likely to be broken into looking for guns. I was thinking I'd install a kill switch under the dash somewhere or under the hood.

I've been thinking about installing one of these. It's probably one of the cheapest ways to secure your vehicle and it's contents.

I’ve pulled the ignition fuse when leaving it for a longer period of time. A little more peace of mind.

I saw another thread here that said you couldn't unlock your truck with a completely dead battery even with the physical key. No idea if it's true.

There was a truly fantastic thread on TW on this subject.

Best answer was a super heavy duty chain to the leaf springs. So ridiculous and yet such a clear declaration of “I’m prepared for you”

it really depends what you want to prevent. Theft of the the entire vehicle? Vandalism? Parts removal?

every defensive measure has a countermeasure which easily defeats it. So there is a limit to what you can prevent. Best plan is to dissuade.

That guy had two unique problems, a dead battery, and he had recently replaced his handles and something didn't go back together right when he did it. The perfect storm of getting locked out.

Main goal is preventing theft of vehicle itself. Nothing of value is left in it. Short of towing it, don't want someone to be able to drive it out.

Got it. So there is a truly excellent thread from someone informed on the subject on TW linked here.

I'm pondering a starter kill but my truck is the v6 so it has an immobilizer built into the key. I'm guessing yours might as well? So, it seems likely that a starter kill would only annoy my wife and maybe a few guys at the tire shop.
