I'd like some opinions on when to have the first oil change done. As this is the most important one I'm thinking 1000 to get the fines out of there. Opinions??

I have seem many people that do the 1000 mile oil change. i dont think it will hurt anything. I did mine at 5k because i figured i would just get even more fines accumulate. I plan on doing another one at 10k miles. Then after that, probably 7500. I dont like to wait more than that no matter how much engineering or science goes into developing new oil.

Don’t think it would hurt. I went 5k, was a little surprised how much metal filter caught. First truck Ive had with canister style filter, so easy to check between pleats. I still had some at 10k, but just change at 15k and saw nothing.

I did my first at 5,000 and then toyota did one at 10,000. I did the next at 18,000 and now I change it every 7,000-7,500.

Honestly, the oil is so good these days that it's overkill to replace it at 1k. Wait til you hit 5k and let Toyota do their thing.

I just changed mine at 5K. I'll have to look in the filter....didn't think anything of it. Speaking of filters, none of the auto parts stores had any. Walmart had 1 on the shelf and it was $15 About time to hit up Amazon and order some. They didn't have any for the 4R either.

I got a pack of 5 or 6 from Amazon and it was really cheap. Toyota part and it comes with a plastic drain plug and O rings. Cant beat it.

Be Careful of buying them from Amazon, a lot of fakes in toyota boxes.

Yeah I brought my truck in at 1k to get the oil changed and the adviser said to come back when I hit 5K, told him I was getting it done and paying for it myself, and not using the "free" oil changes.
I guess I'm getting old and was told when I was younger to get an oil change early to ensure any metal that might have contaminated the oil doesn't do any additional damage.
Knowing that the new manufacturing methods are way better, but for piece of mind, I just did it...

True. They are actually pretty cheap at the dealer.

I do every 5k. The filter was pretty clean a first change, will see at 10k. Have about 8.5k now.
