1794 vs Platinum vs Pro

I have an order for a platinum being delivered in about 5 weeks. Another dealer has a pro and 1794 coming in stock much sooner. I really like the platinums cooled seats, and color matching front, which is my reasoning of going with the platinum. How hard would it be to color match the front of the 1794. I really love that interior. And the pro, well it’s a pro. Anyone have any input of which to go with?

 

I would stay away from the pro just for the fact that the features it’s missing like power fold mirrors, cooled seats, etc. are missing on top of the fact that prices are higher for it vs the others. The suspension can be purchased after and probably be a better suspension. I have a 1794 and debated the platinum for the same reasons you are. I just loved the interior more on the 1794. I color matched the front end with the new overlays from ecoological and the install was fairly easy. You can also purchase OEM color matched hood bulges, surrounds, and bumper caps.

 

I tend to agree with going Platinum/1794. The features you can't replace are the ones you want to get. "The Pro" is really just a suspension. You can do better on your own. While I do like the 1794 interior a lot, it is very orange in person and thought it might get old for me, kind of like Army green (really metallic pea) or Voodoo Blue (really petunia blue) on the exterior. If I were to go 1794, I would go silver sky, keep the front bumper, and chrome the shit out of that thing. The best 1794 I've ever seen had a two inch lift/level, 20" chrome wheels, and matching fender flares with chrome rivets. Not a big chrome guy, but it looked awesome.

For the reasons of interior and color matched grill, I went Platinum MGM. You can only truly match the insert with the MGM or black in the Platinum. The rest of the colors all have a black insert. The heated, and ventilated seats, blind spot monitoring, and parking sensors are worth it to me. But the real deal sealer for me(over the Pro), is the power front leg bolster for the driver, only available in Platinum or 1794. I regularly take long cross-country trips, and it makes those seats so damn comfortable! The one other advantage of the 1794 is that you can find them with the off-road package.

If I wanted it for off-roading, I would still get the 1794 or Platinum. I could beef up the skid plate, and add some King's and still be under the cost of the TRD PRO.

 

I LOVE my pro! That being said, I agree with the others, I wish I found this forum before I bought it. I wish I went the route and got the 1794 or Platinum for the added amenities and swapped out the suspension myself. That being said, I love it and have learned to deal with the nonfolding mirrors, heated/cooled seats, etc. Hope this helps!

 

That’s a good looking truck right there! I prefer the Pro myself. All the little amenities that come with the 1794 addition I could care less about. Also, the interior of the 1794 is horrendous. The wood paneling clashes so hard with the gray interior. That’s just my opinion though. It really comes down to personal preference. I like the lift, skid plate, and suspension the Pro has to offer. I don’t have to do anything to my truck and it’s warranty isn’t voided with mods. The truck is built from the ground up for exactly what I want. That’s the value the Pro has to me. Plus the bed stamp and rims are pretty cool.

 

These cooled seats in my 1794 really help with this Texas Heat. But I would get the Pro just for the stamped bed, everything else can be installed to your liking.

 

Yup you can make 1794/platinum look like a pro. Yup PRO a waste of money doesn’t have luxury ect....PRO owners get ripped off But................. I choose the PRO all day! Can’t change that TITLE!! LMAO. Make those trucks look like PRO but at the end of the day they are what they are!

 

I have a platinum and had a 1794. Loved them both. As many have mentioned, it's hard to add all the amenities of the plat/1794 than to upgrade the suspension. I may be wrong but I think the pro is based off the SR5. I built an SR5 with Toyota factory leather and it was still $9000 below a Pro price. For $9000, you could get wheels, tires, suspension, pro grill, and still be under the MSRP of a Pro. I love seeing pros and the bedstamp but that's my $0.02.

 

So is it rude to cancel my order? It’s not being made til end of April and delivered mid May (at the earliest). I could have a 1794 next week in the color I want. Almost dumb to not jump on it....

 

I have no interest in looking like a PRO. I enjoy being a Platinum set up MY way. Oh and as others have said the 10% i got off of sticker vs the TRD PRO that didnt went to my superior suspension.

 

Me personally I will take the Pro all the time. It’s about numbers for me. I don’t need cool seats and folding mirrors. My C7corvette don’t have cool or heated seats don’t need them. When it comes to value the Pro wins with trade in value. Like I said I’m about numbers. I’m getting just about what I paid for my 2020AG 4runner pro for my new tundra pro LunaRock. I would not be getting that with any other 4runner.

No, it’s only business. Just remember the dealer will have no problem selling the truck you ordered. When you’re spending this kind of money, you get what you want and screw their feelings.

 

Great points too. I agree I think the Pro probably will have better long term value. My 350z is the basic middle model (clothe seats, etc) and I never thought twice. I didn't think I'd use all the platinum features but I do! Fold mirrors daily because somehow I have a 3 car garage and my wife's Highlander and the Tundra are in the same bay so it allows us more walking space for the baby in and out. I love the cooled seats in Texas summer and easy in/out power seats/steering wheel is so nice.

 

Yup PRO all day!! Make em look like a Pro but get in a wreck/total they gone give you platinum/1794 numbers and probably whatever breaks will fix like 1794/platinum all that money spend trying look like A PRO is now gone!!! Lol and to the guy that said pro is a SR5 LOL Okay...... just call it a SR5 with XP package next time LMAO!

I agree with you also. Just like my 19 C7Z06 I bought brand new. All about numbers. My Z is a 1LZ and don’t have all the bells and whistles. But it’s my beast 650hp supercharged is faster than the 2 and 3 LZ and less chances of things going wrong with all the extras. My car is a manual. No longer making a manual in the C8. The value on my car is crazy. I can sell it for more than I paid. Not going to happen. I’m sitting on 2 vehicles that are not going to lose that much money and I still enjoy them.

 

The '15-'17 Pro's are built on the SR5 platform. The '19-'21 Pro's are built on the Limited platform.

Nice thing about our Tundras is that the bones of the truck are the same on every trim. Get the one that has the amenities that work best for you.

 

So you're showing me that you paid more than me or what? Just because one cost more than the other doesn't mean it's better. OP needs to chose the one that will fit him best. I mean if we're talking about cost equating to a better Tundra, might as well buy a dealer lifted SR5 Tundra they mark up to $65K. Those are the best! You should look into one.

My Z is actually very slowly appreciating after 16 years and I still enjoy it and have the garage space so I keep it as well. It's also a manual.

If you like the 1794, I'd jump on it. Build times are very unpredictable right now; lots of people are not hearing back from dealers on the trucks they've ordered for weeks to months after they were supposed to be delivered. Covid shutdowns combined with winter storms Uri and Viola in TX have been the major culprits. Tundras are at super high demand and supplies are scarce.

Most on here are partial to their own vehicle(1794, platinum, PRO). If it is the truck you want, and it is there...don't wait for the truck you may not want as much and may get delayed anyway.

 

Nope not at all..... I simple posted how they holding values as of right now look it up if you like, PRO been the highest SR5 lowest, and lol I only paid 50k for my PRO brand new out the door I was happy

 

Historically PROs have been better. Right now, they're all through the roof on resale, and low miles wins. You can find other threads with people selling their 2019 SR5s with low miles to Carvana for $5k to $6k more than they paid for them.

 

Really just comes down to the style you're going for. If you like the western look with chrome and a Ranch Hand, get the 1794. If you like the more luxury street truck look, get the Platinum. And if you like the offroad look, get the PRO.

I got a Platinum but prefer the offroad look so am in the process of doing quite a few "PRO" upgrades. It's kind of a pain in the ass. So while the power steering column, memory seats, cooled seats, and some of the other things are nice...they really aren't worth it. In fact, I've found that I like the firmer seats in the Limited and PRO better than the Platinum seats. So there's that.

In the end, I say ignore the feature differences and get whichever one better fits your style or the "look" you're going for.

I have two 4Runners. One is a 2004 Sport that came with XREAS. It is a system that cross transfers pressure in the suspension from one side to another to help with body roll. It works pretty good. If a person is going to do any kind of lift kit the XREAS has to be removed. Fast forward to 2020. We still have the 2004 but we want a new 2020 so we buy one and keep the 2004. The 2020 4Runner is a TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS (it kind of does the same thing as the old XREAS). I take the old 2004 4Runner in to have a 3 inch lift put on it and find out that they have to remove the XREAS to do that. No big deal as we are just going to use it for a snow plow vehicle anyway. Then I start thinking about putting a lift on the 2020 Off Road Premium with the KDSS that I paid an extra 1500 for. Turns out that I have to remove the KDSS to do the lift that I want on that one also. Now that I know all of that the 2020 isn't going to get a lift kit. 2021 rolls around and I want a new Tundra. I am older and live in the mountains and want something that I can modify any way I want and am all about comfort. At first I wanted a Pro in a double cab but then I started thinking that if I want a higher lift on the truck I just paid for the tuned Fox shocks for nothing. I then thought about getting the Limited in the double cab but I couldn't find one available in Colorado at the time. I thought about the gains I would get in the Platinum or the 1794 like the ventilated seats, the cross traffic warning, parking sonar assist, electrically folding mirrors, the JBL sound system and the upgraded leather in the 1794 or the Platinum. I got the 1794 and am going to put a lift on it later. I wanted the Off Road package for the skid plates. The Off Road package was only 850.00. The shocks are going to be history when I do the lift on the truck. I will dump them on Craigslist or Facebook. I love the "brown" (it isn't orange) leather.

Moral of the story is, get what suits your situation the most. I love the Pro. It comes with a lift already on it. The ride and the suspension on the Pro is great. If you aren't going to do any kind of real serious suspension modifications then the Pro might be great for you and might be a cheaper way to go in the long run while getting a good off road package without a lot of hassle modifying a truck. If you are going to do a lot of modifications then you might just be paying for the "Pro" stamp on the fender along with a bill for the new parts to replace all the expensive parts you just pulled off your Pro that actually made it Pro.

Good luck. Whatever you do it will still be a Tundra so there's that.

 

Carvana just offered me $47,5xx for my 2019 1794 with 13k miles. Considering that’s what I paid before TTL, I think I’m doing okay.

I absolutely love the interior of the 1794.
I didn’t like all the chrome so I swapped grills to a PRO grill because it looks fantastic. A few other minor changes (mirror covers, bumper wrapped, 6112,s and big ridge grapplers) and I have my favorite vehicle I’ve owned.

The knowledge on this forum and aftermarket support make any Tundra a great platform to do whatever you want to do.
Be warned, it can become an addiction and there’s always one more last project...
