quick question, do I need the Toyota bed rail system to install this?

 

It will install with or without the rail. I think. I vaguely remember the install vid having 2 choices

 

You don’t need the rail system, but it does use the existing holes for the rail system to mount into the bed.. might be able to bypass it.. Here is a close up pic of the mount on mine
