I know some cars / trucks are more targeted by thieves, like Prius' & Ford Excursions etc.
What's the story on Gen-1 Tundras ? Thefts of CC's are increasing in my area, just wanting to know if I should sharpen my dogs teeth, sight-in my pellet gun, add cameras etc.

Cat/con theft seems to be on the rise all over and our trucks are easier to slide under than a Prius. I can't help to think about adding some sort of plate or other form of deterrent before something happens since replacement costs are far more pricey than any fab work would be.

Ours are just as at risk. I leave my windows open a crack so the dogs can hear the driveway better. I made the dogs sleep outside when I was mocking up my cats for exhaust.

I can only speak from my experience... YES protect your Cats! They stole mine at a body shop a while back and they stole my neighbor's Tundra Cats a few months ago parked right in front of his house.

    Outside the box thinking here:

Stolen Cats equal Insurance Payment for New OEM Replacements less deductible.

Assuming Stolen Cats Insurance Paymt = $5k - deductible $500 (in my case)

    Stolen Cats = $4.5k

    New Cats Cost = $3k

    Stolen Cats less New Cats = $4.5k - $3k

Difference = +1.5k profit for New Cats (assuming you can DIY)

Prius have 2 catalytic converters... that's why their prime targets. Crooks get a 2 for 1 deal.

Oh... didn't know that. Most of my vehicles are a bit older. My wife's Prius is a 2013, and by the way, it's a great vehicle. Toyota really has built a better mouse trap with that drive train. They've essentially eliminated the need for a conventional transmission. It's brilliant.

I had a 2007 Prius before my Tundra. One of the best cars I’ve ever owned. I actually traded my Prius for my Tundra lol.

Im from Norcal and not sure how many of yall are fishermen/fisherwomen out here but theres been a rash of cat thefts while they were fishing. One guy caught them in the act and was able to take a picture of their car as they took off, red/burgundy ford focus not sure the year though. But outside of the water way, its almost become a norm out here as well kind of sad really.

A friend of mine shot a guy with a pellet gun. He went to jail. Not sure I'd recommend that. :)

Don't let a kid out smart you.
I may live in CA but I just put a little sign in my windshield that says "2 free cats!" Surprisingly it hasn't worked yet. guess I just need to go leave it on the wrong side of town.

Last time I was in SF there was an aroma throughout the city worse than Taco Bells bathroom at a truck stop on a late Saturday Night.

Yeah. I stayed in the Ritz one night. Two blocks walk away was awful. Drove around some of the closer neighborhoods to sight see and all I could smell was piss and this was 10 years ago. Heard its worse now. Was suppose to stay a few extra nights but high tailed in back to Sonoma to enjoy where my week started. Never again!

Stay out of the big cities. Downtown Los Angeles smells like piss too. Shame, I remember visiting SF when I was a kid and it was beautiful. Drove right past it on the last road trip.
