2022 Tundra

Is it typical for different generations of a vehicle to be able to use the same aftermarket exhaust?

I like this guys rendering better, but...wow, everyone is excited about this? They all seem to be saying the same basic things about the powertrain... and it is going to suuuuuuck! Hope they are all way wrong.

Base engine at only 300hp? Twin turbo for mid 50s USD? There’s no way.

 

Shit 300hp is alot of horse's lol. Back in the day v8 could barely break into the 250hp

 

When you can get the 3.5 eco for a lot less than that I’m hoping I don’t have to pay that much for the 22 Tundra.

 

I wouldn't put any stock whatsoever in his video. He said they have 2 confirmed engine choices the NA v6 and the twin turbo v6. I have not heard any news whatsoever that a NA v6 is going to be an option so I'm not sure where he is getting that this is confirmed. tt v6 yes, but not the NA. Everything in his video is pure speculation with no evidence whatsoever to back it up.

 

Never thought of that. A lightly used eco boost will be cheaper than a brand new Tundra

 

Since you are leasing, go with the new V6. If (slight chance, but still there) it is a huge failure, you only have to keep it to the end of the lease and give it back.
If you are in the market to actually purchase, and you are not sure yet since the new model will probably be out for only a short time by February, you can always extend your lease for another 6 months to check the new one out.
It is not possible for anyone to give sound advice on V6 vs current V8 at this time, because nobody really knows.

 

I'd wait and see what the 3rd gen tundra offers. Worst case scenario, it's awful, and you can just buy out your leased truck. You already said you love it.

 

Test drive one when the time comes. Way too much up in the air to give an good opinion right now. Maybe one of the new V6 options fit your needs better, maybe buying out the rest of the V8 makes much better financial sense. Next January we'd be able to help out quite a bit more.

 

First of all I want to extend my sympathy to you for having a Crewmax. If you do decide to get the 2022, the double cab is the superior and preferred model to own. With that said it is simply too early to give you any sound advice, time will tell in this case what your best path will be.

Besides, the DC/CM option on the 22 is something not really discussed. I hope they keep both.

 

The bed on that prototype looks longer to me. Maybe the new model will be a crewmax with a double cab bed only?

 

Did you subtract the cost for taking the bus everywhere?

 

As I said a couple pages back, I don't see any manufacturer releasing a halfton without a crew cab short box option these days. That would severely limit their market.

A TTV6 even with other improvements will get 21-22 MPG combined at best, Ford 3.5 EB for me personally is about 2-3 MPG over the Tundra. Now if the hybrid version comes out soon enough that's where the big question is - does it get 24 MPG combined at best like the Ford Powerboost or does it get high 20's? Until it comes out and can be tested nobody knows.

The fuel economy improvement of a hybrid TT V6 over the 5.7 wouldn't make it cost effective for you to sell your current truck and buy a 2022. However, if you were going to buy a new truck anyway, may as well get the most fuel efficient one assuming all other factors are equal.

 

I'd love it. I don't buy into the fiction that a manual is bad for commuting.

 

You think they'll put a usable cruise control in the 2022? My 2 4 runners and tundra cruise have been unbearable to use. Holding od until you're 5 mph below the setpoint then drop 3 gears and floor it to 5 above. Repeat. The highlander I rented for work a couple years ago did the same thing
