I want to order both front and rear bumper shells in midnight metallic, but I’m one of those that might forget to have my order changed over from glossy black....

any idea if/when the site will be updated to show midnight black specifically?

 

If it does end up being the case that we can get that color in, and it's still a little up in the air, then the site will be updated so you'll just have to shoot an email or call to change your order over. Trust me though, if this ends up working out, I will be posting about it and the different new color choices we can offer like an insane person.

Yep, shipping is nuts. Especially right now and since we're shipping large, light packages, we get charged dimensional weight. We actually subsidize it a little so we lose a little on every shipment. I get if that's too much, but just wanted to let you know that we definitely aren't making any money off shipping.

 

OEM PAINT NEWS

Here's what I've got so far. We are going to use an actual formable painted plastic. It's something we've used before, and is pretty similar to what we use for the Super White BumperShellz currently, just a slightly different process. Bottom line, it will have a near perfect finish, and cost should be similar to what we have estimated right now for painting. The material itself is extremely expensive, but when we take out additional labor and scrap costs that we need to add for painting, we should be pretty close, if not a little cheaper. Before you get way too excited, read the availability, and lead time info below.

Available colors:
Midnight Black Metallic/Attitude Black (218)
Silver Sky Metallic (1D6)
Magnetic Gray Metallic (1G3)
Sunset Bronze (4U3)
Barcelona Red (3R3)

We can have a limited amount of those colors within the next 3-4 weeks, and a much larger amount within 9 weeks. If we get actually painting ourselves before then, we will open up other colors as well. Most likely we will order the most (218) (1D6) and (1G3) as we can get our hands on, and wait to order the lower volume colors with the large order. But please, if you have those colors that will be available, wait until I give the all clear to start asking about pre-orders or change your order. I need to get the samples and make sure the color match is where we need it to be. Quality has never been an issue with these guys, but I've had a very hard lesson on what it means to "paint match" over the last couple years. Thanks guys!

 

That's good news on the painting. Is this for the grill prices or the bumpershellz, or both?
I'm rocking the TPO right now, but I'd love to get some front bumpershellz in 1D6!

how close to the color of your surround is to the 202 tundra color? Thinking about ordering the front and rear bumper cabs as well as the hood bulge

Adhesion promoter, yes, please share the brand you use. Hope they offer aerosol cans. So do I lay the adhesion promoter then primer then paint at last?

I think it's a thought a lot of people have because of Amazon, but for the rest of us little guys shipping is insane, and has just gotten more-so over the past year like @PonyMan said. No offense taken at all. We are pretty pissed about it too lol

 

Hopefully within that 8 week time frame. We've got another guy from the county coming by this week for what is hopefully the last inspection before permits are issued.

 

We use a brand called Bulldog. I believe they do have it in an aerosol. Other people suggest using a primer as well. I would advise against that because a lighter primer will make the paint job slightly lighter. Procedure would be as follows:

400 grit sand
600 grit sand
Wipe with anti-static pad (dryer sheets work okay)
Clean with wax and grease remover/isopropyl alcohol
1 layer of Adhesion Promoter
2-3 layers of Base Color (depending on how thick you spray. Do light coats to avoid runs. 15 minute flash time between coats,)
Color sand with 1500 grit if you have dust spots
Clean with wax and grease remover
1-2 coats of clear coat (about 15 min flash time for clear as well)
After 24 hours you can color sand with 2000 - 3000 grit for dust spots in the clear
Polish sanded spots with a 3M or similar polishing compound

That is pretty close to the procedure we've used here, so that should get you pretty good results even without a booth, but I would highly suggest making yourself a small make-shift booth to cut down on all the color sanding. Even without most of that color and clear coat sanding, you should be left with a descent result. Any other professional painters feedback here would be great as well.

It will be for both. For the first run we have to budget out how much plastic we are going to be using, but it shouldn't be a problem after the 8 week mark.

 

Small business owner here and I completely understand the shipping prices.. Air is the most expensive thing anyone can ship, and by dimensional weight fees suck!

It's definitely the Amazon effect. Everyone is programmed to "prime" 2 day 'free' shipping, but carriers have lost a LOT of revenue from amazon going to their own fulfillment delivery services, and have upped a lot of charges.

 

So for the guys waiting for color match do u think there will still be the group buy for them or how should we do this

 

@EC1 Any chance there will be a paint run on Calvary Blue soon? Need to get front/rear bumper shellz paint matched. Can have my local body shop do the work if need be, but would prefer to go the simple route.

 

Has anyone taken the front cover and tried to modify the cutout to fit your OEM fog lights to mount into the cover?
