    Hey all

    My name is Jeff
    I now own a 2012 used Tundra
I was a Ford F150 owner but have been convinced to give Tundra a try
Based on great reviews and resale etc.

The biggest bother for myself is that when I am descending a hill, if I touch the brakes the engine immediately down shifts and slows the truck unnaturally
It feels like a bit of a bucking bronco on slightly undulating neighborhoods at slow speeds as well

My take away from F150 vs Tundra is that the f150 drives more Cadillac style if you will and the tundra is jerky and rude not fluid

Is there a setting that can be adjusted on my truck to stop all the downhill engine braking or is that Tundra

My 2017 work f150 does this. My 07 Tundra does too. However, both only do it if I am slowing down quickly and not lightly applying the brakes. Does it to save the brakes on decent.

Edit: I find my Tundra to be a much smoother ride.

Uh, what is a natural way to slow down? I ve come to appreciate the occasional boost from the trany when I come to a hill. Tap the brakes, and it s like a compression brake, but from the trany instead. If there is a setting that would change this I would not use it.

It's called engine braking and it saves wear on your brakes.

I have to give it to you. You are the most welcoming individual on this forum, IMO.

Automakers have had to include this feature into transmission soft wear over the years. Vehicle owner's of today would rather take a beating than touch the shifter for anything other than P-D or R! :D

That downshifting is nice when towing a trailer downhill. My ex-trucker Dad absolutely gushes over that feature. "Built-in Jake brake"

The gas pedal is a touchy mofo..smoothness comes with time. That being said, I still mess it up every once in a while.

I only find the gas pedal touchy in tow/haul mode. I feel like I have to stomp it pretty hard to accelerate at a reasonable pace when not in T/H.

i will agree with you/everyone on the very touchy throttle. i find myself either accelerating from a stop painfully slowly, to the point where the person behind me probably thinks im a 65 year old retiree, or ive got my girlfriend looking at me from the passenger seat trying to figure out why im trying to give her whiplash. there is no easy way to roll onto the throttle. maybe it comes with practice, but as the tundra is my second vehicle, i doubt ill ever get it right as my daily driver is a stick shift that will trump the tundra with muscle memory.

its off by default. but what would that change as far as acceleration and a touchy pedal go.

Everyone comments on the 'Pedal Commander' for Tundra's stupidly sensitive throttle. Might want to check it out.

I don't know why Toyota did it this way but it changes the throttle sensitivity. I find in my truck I really have to step on the accelerator hard to even accelerate relatively gently and keep the engine around 2000 rpm. If I turn on tow/haul, a tiny touch of the gas pedal makes the truck leap forward

Interesting. ill have to try it both ways. ive also heard that S mode also changes shift patterns a bit, and some people prefer to drive in S mode... so ill try that as well. thanks!
