Help please.

I have a 2001 Toyota tundra TRD addition extended cab, just recently I found that when I hit the lock button on the drivers door and shut the doors the passenger side locks but the drivers side doesn't. please help me to figure this out.

does it lock then unlock when you shut it or not lock at all? more than likely it need a new door lock actuator for the drivers door.

 

it shows the door is locked but I can grab the door handle and open it and the lock still shows locked.

 

is there resistance on the lock lever or is it really loose?

 

Can you hear the actuator in the driver's door cycle when you press the power lock/unlock button?

Time for door surgery. So the door never locks using the door locks? How about when you manually lock it with your hand/finger? If it never locks, look into it.
I'm still getting used to mine unlocking for me whenever I shut the ignition off.
All these failsafes to keep you from locking yourself out...I miss the days of wing windows. Never locked myself out, cause you needed the key to lock the door from the outside. But then again, car theft wasn't such a "thing" back then.

I believe that can be disabled. I did it on my wife's car using Techstream.

 

Sounds like a linkage is broken or disconnected. If you're lucky it just needs to be reconnected. If one of the plastic connectors is broken, you can get replacements at any autopart store.

He needed them for the tailgate latch, but the same ones are used elsewhere.

For some reason, the link in that threat to the parts at Autozone doesn't work.

The part description is: Dorman 75450 Door Lock Rod Clips, 6 Piece. Google it or just take that part # and description to your local auto part store -- they should have it in stock.

Obviously, take it apart first to see what the problem is.

 

Back from the dead! After 2 weeks away, I was like, EFF THIS NO WAY I'LL EVER CATCH UP NOW!

Then, while picking something up last Wednesday, tailgate was only disengaging one latch. Anyway, same issue, looks like plastic retainer on the worst (latch) side gave, probably because [1] the previous owner never lubed any of the mechanisms and [2] the white retainer clip that holds the bar straight was allowing too much play. The yellow Dorman clip worked as a good replacement, I'll take pics when I get back in after sourcing the bar retainer clip.

But yeah, these things are apparently brittle Here's some pics of what I had going on when I unbuttoned everything in case it helps someone later.

LUBE YOUR DAMN LATCHES PEOPLE. This should be done at least once every other year. Tailgate was still opening chunky after replacing. I lubed everything up, it opens like butter now.

 

Looping back on this with more info. Come to find out, a similar part was used from at least 2004 to current on other vehicles. But Toyota's parts catalog doesn't show the rod-to-latch clips in the exploded diagrams, and the exact part for our truck is discontinued (good riddance, it kinda sucked). I found concrete information that confirms these colored clips work in the 1st gens.
