Help with fuel injector install

I am again asking for your help. @Professional Hand Model and anyone else.

took out all the bolts but still pretty tight in there.

I feel like this is going to break if I pull up on the entire unit

 

This is a metal line above the fuel injectors. How do I get around it?...

Un do that clamp, that thing it’s attached to is attached to the rail, take the clamp loose and take channels and gently grip the tube and twist to break the seal then it should pop off, then pull that rail, you got this

so you loosened both bolts on each side of that thing connected to the hose, pull the hose, pull that thing(it’s a pressure regulator or dampener if I recall) and it will pop off,(I’ve replaced mine) also maybe get your long eye ball and see where that metal line connects too, I don’t recall having to mess with it that, following hand models pictorial.

 

Ok getting there! Front is almost ready to come out, took out the middle but the back metal pipe is not allowing much movement.

For anyone seeing this in the future, there’s a washer between the pipe In front and fuel injector pipe.

but this pipe doesn’t seem to want me to remove the fuel injector pipe...

 

For future strugglers like myself, there’s a bolt holding the back pipe in place, once removed you can move the metal pipe up. Even then tho I don’t see how the entire fuel injector pipe would come out so I’m going to try and replace the fuel injectors by pulling the pipe as far up as I can. Whoop whoop

 

Ok on the 2003 it’s apparently impossible to remove the entire fuel injector pipe unless you remove the entire top section of the engine(manifold if I’m not mistaken). You can get it high enough to remove the fuel injectors but then it’s basically impossible to put the new injectors on cause you can’t get enough leverage to push them back in.

There simply isn’t enough space for the fuel injector pipe to come out


Screwed. Can’t put new injectors on and can’t put old injectors back on. Lovely

 

eek. i cant say i've had injectors off on an older 4.7. if its like alot of the older toyotas, the plenum has to come off. (sorry i havent been around today... otherwise i would of warned you sooner!)


I think PHM has the same style manifold though

 

oh wait. that engine hook, did you try removing it?

No how do I remove it?!??! That’s what’s in my way but I see no bolts for it. Maybe in between in the slot there? Let me check it out

 

i dont remember off the top of my head, BUT it should just be 2 bolts somewhere at the bottom

 

Ok I see them, backside of the mount towards the engine. Wouldn’t be able to get to them unless things were loosened up as much as they are. Let’s get this hook removed! Thanks!!

 

To anyone thinking of doing this in the future and ur basically a dumbass like me, don’t try to do this lol. Good lord even the engine mount bolts are basically unreachable

 

My background is in construction and when shit didn’t go your way in construction you hit it with a hammer!


Engine mount now allows enough space for the fuel injector pipe to be removed.

 

Yay! Sometimes I like wearing gloves, other times I can fill a thirst buster cup full of hand sweat and end up ditching them. I don’t model with mine so I usually ditch them, but try to be gentle on the knuckles.

Gotta admit I did call in a good friend to help... Old man helped me calm down with his old age wisdom.

 

Missing a seal or boot on that first one.

 

This can’t be good. Seems like a piece of the old injector rubber bushing is about to fall into where the bottom of the fuel injector goes...

 

Good catch. I only noticed after trying to install. Good thing too or else I wouldn’t of noticed the old piece about to fall into the engine. Now I’m worried if pieces haven’t already fallen in...

 

Take a look-see. Most use shop rags or paper towels to "plug" those engine holes from debrizzle

 

Future folk take note. Don’t make the same mistakes I did. Let’s hope the 4.7 burns and spits it all out

 

Look in the holes before you have every thing together.

Might be a big chunk in there. I've never been inside the 4.7L but you don't want to make something potentially go bad.

 

Brother it’s all gone bad. This is not something someone who doesn’t know a lot about mechanics should do. I dropped a bolt now and it’s under the manifold. Lol.

 

Again, I say that I have never laid eyes on the internals of the 4.7L.

Unless you can get a magnet in there, and fish it out from under the manifold then it has to come back off to get the bolt. Maybe not, but probably.

Don't want any loose things going crunch at 3,500 rpm

The “easy” side it done. Only took about 6hrs lol. Hopefully I didn’t drop anything in the fuel injector holes that can destroy my engine. Tomorrow I’ll tackle the hard side lol. Atleast I’m enjoying it all
