Hood Scoop

What are your thoughts on the non-functioning hood scoop.
How is it attached and is there a parts number.

 

Do a search of the site. A few have done it and list the part numbers.

Its dumb and is in the way of the sightline. Knowing its non functional makes it all the more comical.

Sparks parts has the scoop listed on their site, all the needed part numbers are in their listing. Looks to be about $600, but you’d need paint and install too.

I previously had a pro and loved it, trying to find a local shop to do one on my SR5 hasn’t been easy, unfortunately.

If it was functional then yes. But just a hood "ornament" no thanks. You could also go to pep boys and get some fancy chrome fake stick-on vents to put on the front fenders.

 

I on the other hand enjoy fried chicken !

Just love these posts, a functional hood scoop would do nothing for power, would do a ton for getting debris all over the engine bay.

Speaking from experience, having ran a functional cowled hood in the past and selling it a year later due to adding clean the engine to each time I washed the car. Not fun.
Either you like the look or not, but I am happy it’s not functional. Feel free to add a dyno from a functional hood scoop though to support a critical opinion on non functional scoops, just make sure it’s from a modern EFI vehicle.

 

Well stated Chris. Agree with your posting... either we like the looks or not. Some seem to oppose the Pro/Sport scoop on almost moral grounds because it isn't functional. But, as I'm sure everyone here knows, the lower scoop is also not functional. So, if one is going to throw some shade on the upper scoop, then do the same with the lower scoop. In fact, there are several items on our Tundras that are not functional, but merely for esthestics. Such as the badging, decals... hell, even the shiny paint when actually primer gray would arguably be more functional.

On the other hand, I also shave and comb my hair most days, when functionally, it doesn't improve my performance. YMMV

Never considered the front bulge as a scoop

 

It's lame ... if you don't already have it (ie. non-TRD Pro) ... do without

 

Also, the scoop is OEM on the TRD Sport. Available as a modification for any trim Tundra. Much like tires, lifts, exhausts, decals, etc. Make your truck your own.

 

I have the TRD Sport. Twice as many dead bugs to blast out when I clean it!

 

The bulge looks good but seems like a shrugger since it's not practical...but It looks good. The scoop on top deserves an eye roll. You want functional metal louvered vents for temp control then fine. Our trucks may benefit. The days of the 60s ram air/fighter plane look are loooooong over. Just my .02
