I was wondering. Does using non ethanol gas in the Tundra do anything for gas mileage. I only ask because my 1970 SS 396 Chevelle which get worse gas mileage actually seems to do a bit better when using corn free gas. At least that's what it seems and it also runs way better!

I’d say no. I use the premium since it’s the only one around here that doesn’t have ethanol, but I’m sure there is no benefit to mpg or longevity of the engine. I still do it though.

I’m sure electronics and fuel management have improved somewhat in the last 40 years.

Yes, ethanol free fuel does increase gas mileage. For me, it was a 1.5 MPG increase. And it runs even better with the DAP tune.

I use 90 octane ethanol free fuel from QuickTrip. It is more expensive than regular, but it is cheaper than premium.

Yes. Ethanol free gas is much better all around minus the cost.
Ethanol is likely one of the biggest shams when it comes to most vehicles.
Yes, ethanol it has it’s place in the performance world but it takes lots of money to do properly and not worth it for a daily.
You’ll see fuel mileage increase though it will likely not be cost effective if price difference is like here.

Ethanol free is an absolute must in small engines. Ethanol gums up the carbs and deteriorates the fuel lines.

I am on my 3rd tank of non ethanol, and except for it being a little more expensive the gas mileage has improved 1-1/2 to 2-1/2+ on some trips. So overall, I am going to keep putting it in. My 5.7 is FFV and it seems to like pure gas better.

Same here 90 ethanol free and I average around 15.5mpg. Regular 90 I average 14.2mpg

Less BTU's in ethanol than gas, so yes your mileage will go up, albeit slight. Never understood the ethanol angle aside from being subsidized. Doesn't make sense, but then again most things the government does wont.

Most ethanol-free gasoline is higher octane than regular gasoline with ethanol. More expensive light fractions have to be blended to raise the octane. Just like premium gasoline, you will burn less high octane ethanol-free gasoline. That's the good news.

The bad news is that ethanol-free gasoline nearest me is 101 octane, and it's too expensive at $4.38/gallon to burn in my Tundra. My gas mileage would be slightly better, but not even close to offsetting the higher gallon cost. My small engines start instantly, and hum on the stuff, but it is expensive.

Yeah remember the good ole days when all gas was ethanol free, and I would venture to bet, most people on here don't even remember lead in gas. They still have the lead placards at gas stations even though it was phased out in the late seventy's

I remember the good gas before unleaded (regular & premium or Ethyl as it was known then). And it was a whole lot cheaper. It's good to dream, right? lol

I’m not sure about ethanol free in cars but it 100% makes a difference in small engines like lawnmowers

ethanol gas will wreck havoc on those engines overtime

it makes a hell of a difference in everything. A gallon of gas has more btu than a gallon of ethanol, of course this is the solution your government deems. Bunch of Einstiens!!!!

I get up to 3 more MPG using high octane non-ethanol fuel...I've been tracking it using Fuelly.com but it is true...I'm gladly paying nearly $1 more per gallon for the good stuff...the truck notices the difference...

Ethanol is slightly less energy dense than gasoline (4% if I remember right), so no matter that it has higher octane, for a given efficiency, it will NEVER match the mileage of gasoline. On top of that, modern consumer grade automobile engines are designed to burn gasoline more efficiently, not ethanol, hence an even greater loss in efficiency than burning straight gas.

I have no basis to compare as I have only used -eth fuel in my Tundra since purchase. I never tracked mpg in my 2015 Tacoma, but it always got -eth except on the road/offroad trips where I might not have been able to find it. My best basis of comparison was when I had my FJ Cruiser and definitely saw an increase of mpg (although I cant recall the %).

I'm not a overboard prepper, but I do keep food stores and other basic staples if bad weather/power outages/etc ever happens. This includes a generator setup and transfer switch. I keep ~60-90 gallons of -eth gas in the storage shed in a few gas caddies and boat fuel containers. With pumps, it is easy to transfer the fuel around. Every few fill-ups I just use the fuel on hand and then fill the fuel containers on a trip to the gas station. Been doing this for years. Call me crazy, but a pipeline outage/power outage/etc will not be something I get too concerned about unless it is really bad.

So are you guys using the recreational fuel sold for boats and small engines at some gas stations in your Tundras?

I am not sure what recreational fuel is, as I have never seen that label (granted I don't own a boat so I have not been at a marina gas station). I have several local stations here in SLC, UT that have ethanol free pumps, with an octane rating of 88. Been using these pumps for my vehicles/small engines for 8+ years. My wifes golf alltrack has a turbo engine so she doesn't worry about -eth fuel and just runs whatever octane is recommended.

I'll play....a gallon of E85 has 20% less energy than a gallon of 100% dino. E85=20% less fuel efficiency than 100% dino. As mentioned....it's all about the BTU's

It is the opposite around here. Ethanol is used to boost octane. I have only seen ethanol free in 87. When I had a boat with a modded Mercury Black Max I liked to run ethanol free. Because of the milled heads and high compression I had to run premium with ethanol. When I ran ethanol free I had to add an octane booster. Once I converted all of the fuel lines to ethanol resistant I did not worry about it any more. The problem with older vehicles and boats is the ethanol would cause deterioration of the fuel lines. I have no problems with 10% ethanol in my newer boat even with a 95 gallon tank. I run ethanol free mix in my weedeater and chain saw. I mix myself since a local station has it.

Yeah. Most gas stations here in CO is E10 but Maverick offers pure dino. Nothing wrong using E10 in non flex. Actually the pumps say "up to 10% ethanol."
