Bringing my truck in for its 1st oil change (free oil changes with ToyotaCare). I want to send the oil out to Blackstone.

Has anyone asked the dealer save some oil so you can send it out to Blackstone? Is this a reasonable request?

i don't think it's unreasonable to ask. worse thing they'll say is no. but give them the jug/bottle to get sample. if not, and you're comfortable enough, just get under your truck and drain a lil out carefully to get what you need then head over to dealer....or do it in their parking lot. i'm weird, so i wouldn't mind doing something like that personally

I've never asked personally, but doesn't seem like a unreasonable request, just leave them the bottle. The only thing i'd be worried about is a tech forgetting to pull the sample, and just filling it up with random used oil.

I would just take the sample yourself before you bring it to the dealership.

i wasn't goin to tap into this, but i'll piggyback now. kinda my thoughts too on it being a lil early. not much in terms of results IMO. maybe after 25k or 50k miles i would think.

Just keeping so they can see trends overtime. More data points the better. Also interested to know how much metal is there from initial break-in.

Or you could take a small sample yourself before heading to the dealer. A small hand pump will do the job inexpensively and you will have it for the future too.

Or get the Blackstone lab kit and give the tech the sample container. They should be happy to do it. Offer to share the results with them.

I would be willing to bet that they could care less about lab results

Yeah, you're prolly right. They don't give much of a rat's behind about much. That's why a dealership will never touch my stuff.

Yeah.....I am struggling with letting them do the two free oil changes. Got 5000 miles to decide.
