Hi guys, I have a rippled chrome grill on my stock SR5. She’s an 08 and I’m wondering what my options are? I like the look at painted, and will attach a couple pics. How expensive is it to paint them? Will a body shop strip my old chrome and paint, or will they request a new piece?

Like the painted look and maybe eventually painted bumper, but mines silver so chrome doesn’t look bad.. kinda matches, but I still like painted.

A lot of your questions will be shop specific.

Just because my shop will paint it for $200, doesn't mean yours will.

You are best off calling or stopping by a local shop.

Sure, that’s true. I’ll stop in and talk to those boys.

I had mine painted flat black. Now the chrome is starting to show through from small rock hits and I'm getting bubbling as well. I plan on stripping the chrome off somehow and then spraying the grill with black raptor liner (or similar).

I lightly sanded mine, primed, adhesion promoter, spray on bed liner and it seems to be holding strong.

If it fails, I'll go the BumperShellz overlay route.

Doesn’t come in silver, but it looks like it’s less than 200 bucks to order a painted one. Looks like it comes in black, white, grey, and red.

I imagine a body shop would charge a good bit less to just paint a black one than they would to strip the chrome off yours and and paint it. I’d bet you could have that done for around a hundred bucks. You wouldn’t be without your grill while you’re waiting either.
Or you could go with black and see how you like it.

If you really want to go all out you could get a Sequoia Pro grill but that’s a good bit of money.

Yep I have one in my cart (online)... going to check local Yota dealer to see how he compares on prices. Will pull trigger one way or the other tomorrow.

I bought a lightly used Rock Warrior grille on eBay for $150. Save a few bucks compared to the dealer since it will need to be painted anyway.

Found a new “base model” black one on eBay $113 w/ tax. Purchased, and plan to have one of the local body shops spray it silver paint. I’ll install it.

Has anyone tried stripping the chrome from the surround/bulge? I have used the purple power stuff before on small chrome parts but never on something that big. Nor do I want to try on the only one I have
