If your gonna modify the suspension on a TRD Pro isn't it cheaper to go with another model?

This is purely for conjecture because I am going to invest in my Limited- but from a resale value or just an overall "value" perspective once your replace the suspension all you are left with is the cool TRD Pro Stamps on the bed and the wheels- correct? (I guess the Red Striping in the interior).

I thought about trading my 18 Limited in for Pro but there were just no Double Cabs to be had and when I did the math I was going to end up with having to come up with about $25k to buy back 28,000 miles and the items above and Apple Car play...

For that same amount of money I got an ICON Stage 3 lift, 295 Nitto Grapplers, Supercharger and a $4k overhaul of my audio system from James at Tech12volt...

Did I make a mistake? You guys would know best.

Yeah to me, buying a Pro just to strip it makes no sense at all. The SR5 is a good go-to for building.

The only problem is when you trade in an SR5. Its still has the SR5 trade in value. They don't care about the mods. Its only valued to the beholder that has done the mods.

I agree on the trade value- but if we fast forward 3 years it is gonna be about a wash. Dealers are not gonna want a Supercharged truck. I do agree that I will have more residual value with the PRO- but after taxes and the sunroof addition- I gotta have one the Double Cab Pro is gonna be $58K and it isn't supercharged... I am at high $60's then...

Looked at the SR5 but Momma wanted heated leather seats...

    Thank you all!

Yes the mods will keep coming..

    Not enough....
You did the right thing. I specifically saved money and bought an SR5, just like my FGT was. If I want leather heated/cooled seats down the line I can do that for less than $1k! New suspension, wheels and tires are all on their way as we speak to the tune of about $4k total (install will be free minus pizza and beer lol)

A lot of people buy the Pro and don't intend, or don't have the knowhow, to swap parts. So it does make sense for them to have all the cool suspension, interior upgrades etc, and just pay a higher payment which is objectively easier. I'm a big fan of living debt free, so I didn't buy a thing for my truck until I paid it off which I did aggressively in 6 months.

So mod away my friend! Make the truck yours exactly how you want it. Also I never care much about resale and mods, because I've only had 2 trucks in 17 years lol. Pay it off, mod for your tastes, and enjoy your truck

After that much modding, the only reason to get a PRO would be if you wanted the leather seats and the stamped bedsides.

It isn’t done yet! Have to wait 6 weeks for all of the components to come in. (Doing it all at once..) wife is getting pissed because the garage is getting full of boxes.. (I am not allowed to count her shoes but she sure feels like she can count every box that shows up for me!).
Will try and out a before picture up..

I am like a 6 year old waiting for Christmas! Will post the after pictures hopefully mid-late April!

One thing I gotta say is this and it may make you all ban me from the Forum.. I am 53 and I like the chrome on my Limited and how it accents the Magnetic Grey Metallic- got the chrome side steps and I am gonna keep the TRD Off-Road wheels because I like the contrast.

Maybe I should change my handle to Dinosaur!

If you plan of keeping the Truck. I would go with a SR5 and spend that money you saved on a Long Travel suspension.

I agree with Greg. Probably the main advantage of the PRO is the Fox suspension on the '19-'21 models. Tossing that for aftermarket seems a waste. I guess you could sell the Fox suspenders and finance the new suspension. Otherwise, as stated, the PRO is a Limited with different cosmetics and wheels.

Not exactly your point, but I really dig the Fox suspension and not interested in going higher. I had Billy 6112/5100 combo and Icon mini-pack leafs on my 2018, and the Fox is a noticeably smoother ride, less lean on the road and overall better manners. I can't speak to the Icon Stage 3 system.

Already own mine so the extra $2k was spent years ago (got a really good deal on mine- Double Cabs are are not hot around here..).

I am interested in the long travel suspension.. isn’t that what the lift does? Gives a wider range of motion? When I was working with my installer we were discussing going up to the ICON 3.0 kit bs. The Stage 10 kit with the the 2.5’s and he asked me if I was gonna “jump” my truck.. I replied “huh” and he repeated the question.. I said let’s go back to talking about the Stage 10...

I will do research while I wait for your reply!

If you leave them both stock, the trade-in value becomes less of an issue. It’s when you dump more money into it that the resale value doesn’t really rise with the extra $$ you put into it. But, the Pro has an edge anyway due to the limited availability (this drives Pro value more than anything else). But right now, every trim level is scarce, especially ‘21 models.

I went SR5. If Toyota made a Tundra that I could drive off the lot how I want it, I’d be driving that one. They don’t though. So I’m modding it how I want.
