Gas log book.

So here comes an edit.

My truck is a 2002 3.4 Liter, V6 5VZ-FE, 2WD.
When I started this thread, it was to document fuel costs before I replaced my OEM injectors with @dirtydeeds 12 hole injectors.

I didn't get enough data points before the swap because I had the weekend off, and weather conditions were right. So I edited this thread to be a gas log book.



This is the empty weight of truck without all my little items that I carry.



184.9/11.8 = 15.67 mpg

 

187.6/12.504 = 15.00 MPG

 

Gas price: $2.18 ⁹/¹⁰

212.6 ÷ 15.0 = 14.17 MPG

 

245.6 ÷ 15.590 = 15.75 MPG.

Dirty deeds 12 hole injectors.

 

Based on my ky crystal met... math. Crystal math.

If I can maintain at least 15.26 mpg I can stay within OEM fuel mileage when I changed my injectors.

I want to say I changed them at 310k? Somewhere in there.

 

206.8 ÷ 12.970 = 15.94 mpg.

50 miles of that last tank was on the parkway/interstate.

May experiment with parkway driving next week. Even tarmac may be worth driving an extra 20 minutes a day. Saves gas pulling hills maybe? Biggest hill I pull twice daily is 220 meters up for .75 miles both ways.

I'm spitballing.

 

221.9 ÷ 14.233 = 15.59 MPG.

100 miles of parkway driving here.

 

288.5 ÷ 18.501 = 15.59 mpg.

How you liking those higher gas prices? Almost predictable they.... no, we knew they would rise. Warehouse guy said he was glad he kept his 1990 Acura and will be driving that now instead of his F150. He had a few offers on the Acura during Scary Virus Hysteria. Said he was glad he didn’t bite.

I don't understand, Why be obsessed with gas mileage that isn't going to change that much, and we all know it sucks? Just pump n shutup. Its almost 3 tons and a 5.7...do the math

 

3.4l... V6. I have the littlest engine they ever did put in a tundra...

The main reason I started this thread back in July was to see what would change from OEM injectors to the 12 hole dirty deeds injectors, but I didn't get enough data points from before the new injectors for it to really matter.

It goes fast, it just doesn't go fast very fast.

 

So, was this the first generation tundra? Right after the t100?

 

T100 ended in '98. First gen Tundra was first sold in 2000.

 

It might occur to you some people like to monitor their gas usage.

Also it seems you like unnecessarily paying more at the pump than you have been for 3-4 years, but you are over on the other thread bitching about SoCal? You sound miserable even though I agree with some of you.

Wow, are you serious? and you say I am the one with the problem. First off its all of California, I don't concern myself with what gas costs...Its simple I have no control over it so why bitch about it? As far as being brighter I outshine you. Pretty harsh sentiments wouldn't you say?

 

I use an app called "Fuelly" that is a free app and log each tank fill there. I like it because I also record my maintenance and can see how long in time and mileage it has been since oil changes, filter changes, etc.

 

Low 14's in town - high 15's on the road, been that way since new, 20 years now. Stock ride height, tires, etc.

 

Looks like ‘Wild Blue Yonder’ got disappeared.

 

316.3÷19.876 = 15.91 mpg

 

I'll never understand going into a thread to tell people that you have no interest in it. If you see a fuel thread, avoid it.

Sharing what your real life fuel consumption has been isn't obsessive, its just documentation that can help people with expectations. Maybe somebody is on the fence to buy a V6 Tundra and realized they won't save much gas, thats helpful right? I drove a V6 Taco for a year and read that first Gen Tundra guys got better fuel economy than me, so I was happy to buy a 4.7.

I avoid oil threads, trans cooler threads, tire threads, auxiliary lighting threads. You can avoid fuel threads.

Regarding fuel consumption, if I'd had it my way I would have the extra two cylinders.

I don't, and am living with what I have. My truck didn't cost me anything (except what I've put in it.)

It is what it is, and am just documenting this to help myself, and help others as @Darkness said above.

 

Monitoring fuel consumption might also tell you when something ain't right in my opinion.

When I bought my 07 there was a notebook in the glovebox. It was a log book the previous owner wrote. He kept track of every fillup, amount, cost, and all the rest from new to 52k miles. It was pretty impressive.

 

That's the only reason I check MPG at fill-up. If the mileage differed much from 14-16 mpg, I would be alerted to something's amiss. I do the same thing on my motorcycles, especially the carbureted ones, they are more apt to change suddenly than EFI.

 

My gf still does this. Something she picked up from her parents
