Not sure what to do here

Got some rust starting at welds and what not should I should clean it up prep and paint or just start a grease bath

I like the idea of painted look without rust but don’t want to mess it up or trap in any moisture causing more future problems
An advise and knowledge of products would be appreciated thanks 13E2E2CE-AA5F-4711-AA9D-10403E8B1365.jpg

If you’re keeping it for years to come I would do both. Paint it and then smear it with grease or use a fluid film like product

Grease it baybay. Cheap and easy. Takes some time.

Painting (properly) is so much work and $$$ and no way you’ll get every last crevice that grease and oil can get to.

*Note: I did paint my calipers and spindle and wheel shields. For every thing else grease. My frame/welds looked like yours a few years ago.

Just spray fluid film is what I would do.

PHM - What exactly did you use to “grease” the frame? Just thinking logically here, doesn’t that just attract more dirt/debris and require cleaning more frequently? I keep thinking of the tire shine - looks good for a little while, but quickly gets messy. I don’t disagree with your statement as your pictures prove it works, I have just never done that before and curious to learn more about it. Thanks!

Used STP Moly Grease out of a tub from Autozoned ($5). Dip a sponge in and wipe it smoov on the frame. Yes dirt attracts on it at first, but then the Grease Turns into a Doughy Shell and Dirt is repelled. The Grease Shell blocks air and air from the steel surface.

Its an old idea from a mechanic that told me Jeep Wagoneers from the 60-70’s he worked on used to come from the factory with Grease Loaded Frames. Never had a rust problem he said.

Use Evil Oil or PB to squirt up into the Frame Box to get into the Overlap Portion of Framing. Squirt every hole you can find. Pretty soon the frame will saturate and never need it again.
