    Hi All,

I just purchased my used 2010 Platinum CrewMax 4x4 (gas only) back in Jan/2017, with about 100k miles on it. I'm in the process of changing everything out, and next on my list is the front/rear shocks.

The following pics are my rear shocks, and not sure if they need replacing or not? I also don't know what kind are currently installed. I believe these are originals, but I dont know the name of them.

I only do city/highway driving, and I'm currently feeling every bump in the road. I also want to keep the stock height of the truck, so I guess I'm looking for the best stock replacement shocks I can find. I like the smooth/firm ride if that's even possible.

    Any recommendations?
Also, any idea how the TRD replacement shocks work ride/handling wise?

Stock Plat shocks will be the softest. Bilstein 5100 will be firmer (in the good sort of way). If you are interested in stock height, stock TRD shocks will give you a firmer ride than Plat shocks. There are plenty of guys with those laying around somewhere, I am sure.

Also, if I install both front/rear shock, do I also need to get a 4 wheel alignment?

    Hi Chphilo,

I noticed the TRD Shocks say 4x2. Will these work for a 4x4 truck?

there are TRD shock and UCA's in the marketplace for $200, might be worth your time instead of paying full price.

I'm in the Midwest in Indiana, but I believe the truck came from Canada. I plan on renting out a Lift Bay for $25 an hour, to kill all the rust underneath. I'm killing all the rust I see around the tailgate first, before I get it sprayed in.

Our trucks have a solid axle rear, so it would be a front alignment. The rear does not get aligned as there is no way of doing that. The front has all the alignment adjustments.

Those look like the performance shock that goes with the TRD lowering kit. The shocks you want are TRD Off-road shocks (or non-TRD, whichever you want). There are several Toyota vendors on this site that can help you. I personally would just buy almost-brand new take-offs from other members.
