Best Oil for 5.7

I can't find this on this forum, but please let me know if this has already been addressed.

I'm currently using AMSoil 0W-20, which has been great. But, just wanting to get advice on what others have found to be the "best" oil for your Tundras. Thanks.

I don't think @hagrid is saying there's a thread that he knows about that he's not sharing with you. He's saying there are already TONS of oil threads where this topic is covered. You'll find them if you search. Top right of the page. Try "best oil" or "amsoil 5.7" or "oil recommendation" and restrict the search to titles only.

I think that all you're going to find is that Amsoil is the best but some guys think it's unnecessary because OEM is great, and the Mobil1 you can get at Walmart never blew up anyone's motor either. I am an Amsoil guy myself.

Amsoil is what I use but I’ve also read people using Supertech with no issues.

 

Appreciate it. I did a search here for "oil" and "best oil" and didn't see anything addressing what brand of oil to use, however did not restrict the search to titles only - thanks for the suggestion. Best oil is clean oil and frequently changed oil.
Synthetic, every 5k. You are good.
My 2005 Toyota Camry 4cyl has been through so many different brand of oil. After 220k, still going strong.

You change oil every 3000 miles, you can use just about anything spec'd for any given motor and never have an oil related problem.

I have to admit that I'm amused by this. Some things are universal, apparently. I ride a Gold Wing and a Kawasaki Vulcan, and online forums for both are full of "what oil is best for my XYZ" and "what tires are best for my {insert bike/trike here}. I don't know why I'm surprised to find them here!

Honestly, the best oil, as @Hoff says, is clean oil. Change it at at LEAST the manufacturer's recommended interval and engine problems aren't something you'll have. Other things will kill your vehicle, then - old age, Vermont roads, salt, an idiot in a Toyota Camry barreling down your street, your wife bouncing your car off seriously solid snowbanks... but not your engine seizing up.

Oh, and if you have a Honda Element with that stupid "% dirty oil" readout? IGNORE IT; not changing your oil until it goes down to 10 or 15% WILL kill your motor. Change it every 3500 miles. DAMHIK.

 

I change my oil every 5k miles. At that interval it hardly matters what oil you use. The tundra has a ton of oil in the fill, that helps as well.

I use Kirkland full synthetic, it's only $25 for two 5qt jugs.

Don't you just love when you ask a question like what oil to use and some dude says "its already been addressed" without even offering any brand of oil. Just give an answer. I mean I get it if your trying to say there are lots of threads on the topic, but just give an answer, really not that hard.

@apbreaux I think you'll find here in this thread and multiple others that some people have brand preference and the majority don't. The main consensus though will be to make sure you do regular changes. PERSONALLY, i've never been consistent between oil brands on any vehicle I've had. I've never noticed any difference or shortened life on my vehicles.

I change my oil at 5k intervals to make sure that I keep the inside of the engine clean. No matter which oil you use, all engines have blow by and all oils will get dirty. As for brand, keep it within this range:

The best oil are what meets the engine specs. At that point it’s up to the individual how much they want to spend. I utilize Amsoil XL 0-20. Other brands like Redline, Walmart brand, Mobile 1 are all fine as long as they meet spec and weight. You really won’t notice differences when someone changes the oil under 10,000 miles/1 year, or so many hours.

If you want to know how good the oil is. Get oil samples analysis every LOF change.

 

I use whatever the dealership is using when they change the oil & filter in my 4.7 & 5.7.

 

Any motor oil with the API service seal on the bottle is perfectly satisfactory, and meets Toyota's specs. Any motor oil that costs more than the cheapest oil with that seal is a waste of money where performance and longevity is concerned. If you get your spiritual high by buying the most expensive oil with an API service seal, then go for it. Your money; your happiness. Mobil 1 makes me feel good.
