What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Just got back from a day trip to Helen, GA. I've barely driven the truck the past month so it was nice getting time behind the wheel. Hit a few short roads/trails on the way back. North GA is nice. We passed a gas station/market called Booger Hollow and a Pharmacy that also sold guns. I love the south!

On the way back we spotted a first gen pulling another first gen. If you're a member here, I waved.

 

Decided I'd go outside and do something today since the weather was above freezing. I rotated my tires and broke out the power washer. I sprayed the underbody, wheel wells, wheels, and frame pretty thoroughly to get the packed sand, salt, and dirt out.

I figured it would be a good opportunity to show the front end and the new bits while I was there.

 

The Helen area is our go too for some USFS road exploring....love that area.

 

It was our first time. Long drive for us. I uploaded the GA Traverse into Gaia. Recommended that road for you to try. Easy hike to that waterfall. Hatchet Creek Rd.

 

Ended up going on a run as promised and put about 100 miles on the truck. Everything is holding up and the pedal feels fine. I definitely feel like the truck has better stopping power now so I will consider the discs and MC an upgrade in my book. It seems like the ABS was kicking on less in the dirt which is a positive. Going to go on a few trips here shortly and then it'll be time to start tearing into the front end again

So it’s a guy on T4R, you can message him there or I can give you his email, but his kit is like 50$ but doesn’t include block off plates(for pre valve failures) but you can buy them separately if your valves have failed. Even with the block off plates it’s cheaper than Hewitt kits.

I was in talks with someone about possibly modifying the ECU to completely remove the SAI system.. nothing yet. But it may happen. And if does thats the route I’m going.

So I lurk in the OV tune thread and I thought I read either they had a AIP removal program in their tune or someone on that thread that has a different company tune that does that feature.
So I’m sure it’s possible

 

the ecu being broken has shown its possible.. but at this time its kind of hard to know if we'll need a physical ECU mod like the immobilizer deletes on 3.5s or if it can all be done software flash side.


luckily the local guy that does the MR2 stuff is willing to fiddle with it with a spare ECU i have.. but only when hes got some time

 

Finally got my uca, Kings, and new sway-bar links installed today thanks to @Darkness . Very fun but long day!

 

That was pretty fun except for the one bolt and the Toyota clips. And that driver side pivot bolt.

For anybody who cares it turns out TC arms use bigger through bolts on the spindle and taller misalignment spacers than Camburg arms. Even the slug adapter was beefier.

 

I had a productive day today. I replaced all 6 speakers with the JBL concert series speakers. I also replaced my tailgate handle and wired up a backup camera into my tailgate handle while I had it apart.

 

@Darkness was doing King installs on black trucks today? Why didn't anyone tell me?

It did feel weird working on a black 03, it was like my truck but not my truck.

How's the ride @jImmegart ? Softer than mine I assume, especially with the tires.

 

Did a headlight restoration and installed the new clear corners. The truck looks so much better.

 

For not being aligned, it rides very well. On the freeway the ride was definitely softer also

was a little squirrelly on turns on the freeway but think it was just alignment

it also felt more responsive, but that might be since my trucks angled back more.

Ordered these brass 90° as a back up fitting just in case. Sumting Wong. Check out the Orifice of the Provided Derale Fittings (USA) vs chyna. Both are 3/8” supposedly, but the chyna one is not proper. Thats an exponential reduction of 37% of my Mojo Flow.

 

Scored on some Grommets that will be used as Vibration Isolators for the Valve Bracket. These give me a little tingle.

 

Finally getting around to this.

Fairly easy to remove. The seal where it meets the booster is dry so it doesn't appear it was leaking into the booster.

 

Well, as soon as I looked at the back of my master cylinder I had a feeling something was wrong. The snap ring on there is about 3 times the size of the one that came in the kit that I bought. Toyota part 04311-34020 says it fits my truck on both McGeorge and Cool Springs websites. It's significantly smaller in every way. Now I'm really curious what this is actually for. Toy Parts Deal has a completely different part # 04493-0C011

I'm not sure I trust that at this point. Leaning towards just buying a new master from Napa.

The one on the right is the replacement part.

How well did yours fit? Mine I had to velcro on the driver side because the mounts didnt line up.

 

I had been looking for a long time. As soon as I found them I jumped on it. I think they are the same lights that were made years ago.

 

I got started installing my tailgate handle and backup camera and now I'm on the next step, Troubleshooting.



I got everything installed and turned the truck on and the camera showed up, but not when I put the truck in reverse. I had to hit the button for the camera and it showed up.
Then somehow I did something wrong and killed my battery. Jumped it off and now the camera won't show up. Anybody have some tips?
I have the camera spliced into the power and ground of the reverse taillight (red/blue+ and white/black-). I checked the RCA cable and it's plugged in. The parking guides show up, but no video.

 

Make sure that you have the head unit set up that it will turn the camera on when put in reverse not all are set to default that way. I usually don’t wire the ground to the taillights only the head unit reverse wire I typically wire the camera to an accessory wire so that if you want to turn the camera on the truck doesn’t need to be in reverse.

 

Does your head unit have a trigger wire? I didn't have my trigger wire ran to the head unit and to the power wire (reverse light). As a result I had a camera but it didn't come on when I shifted to reverse. I would unhook the battery, check all of your wires, and hook it back up. I'm not a mechanic or an electrician. Just someone who bumbled through hooking up my own this weekend.
