Got a call from Katskinz shop. Too cold here to install new leather.
Can’t get my heaters installed. Freezing my a$$ off here. Rolling blackouts suck.
Some friends have had NO POWER OR WATER for 36hours. Ours at least comes on for
An hour or so every 2 hours. Melting snow to fill toilets with. I feel like McGiver.

Could be worse. Be thankful. Seat covers are nothing.....There was a house fire that couldn't be put out because the hydrant froze.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys down there . I know some people up here don’t understand because the temps aren’t as cold as we get and we get more snow for 4 months out of the year but what they don’t realize is that down there they’re not set up for the cold .
Like winterized housing , insulated pipes for water , gas etc etc .

It’s supposed to warm up today, so I sadly am not likely to be able to get a photo for you when she gets home tonight from work at the ER.

About a decade ago we had a huge ice storm. We were out of power for 10 days. I have been in charge of my own heat ever since. These localized events should be a learning opportunity for all of us to be more resilient. A resilient country is a strong country. A dependent country is a weak country.

I hope these guys are letting the water fast drip from their faucets so their pipes won’t completely freeze over and burst (if they even have water).

Not a place to be when they don’t really winterize homes. I remember when living in TX a buddy of mine had a house built and just having double pane windows was an option and not standard, jeez. :eek2:

Jesus christ I have no career path whatsoever, but I sure wish I knew how to be a plumber, I'd travel my ass down to texas and Tennessee and fix all these broken pipes. If you knew what you were doing you could make 30,000 in a month easy

That mindset is unsurprisingly common. Natural disasters are when unfortunately the shadiest of shady contractors come out and take advantage of poor suffering people.

Or, another way to look at it is you work 30 days in a row making $1000 a day for 10 hours work.

A hundred dollars an hour is cheap for a good plumber.

The Ethics of People/Professions (lawyers, doctors/re agents) is another topic and one which can be discussed ad nauseam. Scuz is everywhere in our society.

Very true - these services are definitely needed and the cost of a good faith plumber that knows what they are doing is worth it. My experience with doing flood repair is that there are more scummier people in the industry than there are ethical, which is unfortunate.

Evidently you will need to bring the parts with you too as they are all sold out in the area it seems.

I do some contract work in emergency zones and there are all kinds of people out here trying to actually help if we can too.
As always it os not at all fair to paint all workers anywhere with too broad a brush.
