I think benchmade makes some of the best knives!

I agree, but I'm biased. I own 4 so far, and looking for more. Outside of Spiderco, it's hard to find a knife to carry in the left pocket. Ironically I've picked up Gerber's GhostStrike for a horizontal carry and now looking to get StrongArm- both of these knifes can be setup to carry horizontally and work for both left and right handers.

I have had horizontal option sheaths made for 3 of my knives. I like fitting it between the belt loops above my right rear pocket.

I enjoy custom sheaths. I hate having to pay for them after dropping $150+ for a fixed blade knife. I found a guy that makes lefty vertical sheaths for folders. Somedays I like a knife in my pocket, and on my belt!

My son is starting knife training in Cub Scouts, so there is a newfound interest in knife catalogs in our household. I’ll have to show him this thread and add some pics of the few knives I have.

To me, selling a high end heirloom quality custom knife without a sheath would be like selling a truck without mirrors. Except for kitchen knives.

The Strider Tarani Master Karambit is probably my favorite. Steve Tarani is a friend and did a bit of training with him. The top blade is a Randall and handed down from Grandfather-father- me; WWII combat knife.

For a variety of reasons with my work - the EDC remains in my vehicle console.

Favorite is the Buck 301 stockman. I also keep a 112 auto elite in my truck.

I've got a few110/112s, a handful of Behring Mades and more Randalls than I need.

The BM's are very nice, well made knives and relatively affordable - considering they are handmade semi customs. The Randalls - my favorite models are 25-5, cattleman, and 1-7...getting around to getting a sgt special one of these days...the big bowies...look nice in a display and draw interest - but honestly I can never see myself needing a Smithsonian or Thorpe Bowie for any practical purpose (Smitty weighs near 3 pounds and a 13" bowie/sword...what am I going to use that one?).

To me an ideal blade length is 5" or so on fixed blades. The 1-7 is just well balanced and despite being longer feels usable.

This may have been covered...what sharpeners do you all use? I have a lansky set but still do not feel like it sharpens very well...could be user error but I watched many youtube channels with same results.

I agree with you about knife/blade size.bigger isn’t always better, at least as far as function goes. I’ve made a few bigger knives, but consider them “showcase” knives. 0BCFE08E-9ACD-4926-A662-6EF4A2D23E12.jpgB4A7CF55-FFC9-4298-810D-DBE929B86196.jpg80D35453-FA85-4FD0-8022-963E6D9F016F.jpgthis big bad boy, I gave to my stepdad. Thanks @gosolo. It is engraved with my grandfathers name. The story goes: The men that were preparing for combat would go to Randall and the blades custom made. Its a serious knife and holds a great edge. I will no doubt pass it on to my son in a mother 15yrs or so.

Those critter scales look good! I’m planning on ordering some regular titanium ones with no lanyard hole as soon as the rockscale website is back up. I feel like I’ll appreciate that little bit of extra weight in the hand compared to the stock scales

They really transform the knife in a good way to me!
Mine also flips like buttered with the more rigid scales where it was tough to dial in before them.
    Pricey but worth it.

I like the griptilian for utility and heavier tasks, but the bugout 535 is so cool. Barely there until you need it. Love this little knife! Now I can send the grip in for a tune-up.

Not sure if I’ve shared this one yet. The brand is Katsu, got it from Amazon last year. It’s really solidly made and I’ve been pretty impressed with it.

Finished another knife. Love experimenting with Damascus patterns. The 2 sides of this modified Sontoku, are very different. The curly maple seems to glow from within
