Hello everyone! Quick question. I have an 03 access cab 3” lift in the front and approx 1.5 in the rear. I have 1.25” spacers but can get some bigger ones if necessary. I bought some 305/70/17 rollers for cheap off Craigslist when i bought the truck but they are almost done. I do a lot of off roading on the weekends. I go to Sedona and Moab and there is lots of snow and mud around Flagstaff Az if you are familiar. Anyway i am contemplating between 35s and 285/75s. Either way i have heard good things about general grabbers, duratracs, coopers stt, ko2s etc but wanted to hear personal stories. I know that it is difficult but possible to fit 35s so i wouldn’t mind hearing from those that have done it too. Feel free to say what size and what you do with them, planning on buying from DT if that makes any difference.

I’ve had the Yokohama Geolander XATs for a couple of months. Very happy so far.

Duratracs. Now running on Taco, Tundra, and Sequoia. They just seem to last forever compared to others and have phenomenal grip even in snow/ice. I love them, Taco is due for a new set finally and I wont have second thoughts on getting the same. I killed 2 sets of BFGs on Taco before the Duratracs, had lotta tread chunking issues and such and decided to search elsewhere. Glad i did

I seem to hear this a lot. I am seriously thinking about them other than that they don’t make the 285/75/17s so i would need to go with 35s to get them, and they are kinda pricey but good input.

I’ve got 35s. I drive hundreds of miles a year on dirt. Only got to drive them off pavement once before it started snowing and they preformed well. So far excellent in the snow. Very quiet on the road

Ran KO2’s on my Tacoma’s and never had an issue, unless I failed to rotate them. Decided to try something different with the Tundra and went with the Ridge Grapplers. I’ve really liked them so far. They seem more quite on the pavement and so far have performed equally off road.

Toyo AT III. Toyo improved on the design from the AT II, and in my experience, it shows. It seriously feels like you're planted to the driving surface, whether on or off-road. I have nothing but good things to say. I believe this was Toyo's answer to the Falken Wildpeak AT3W, which, from what I hear, is a fantastic choice as well. Both are pretty popular so you may have to search around a bit to find a place with them in stock, but shouldn't be too difficult.

I also have the Toyo AT3 and like them so far but only have 7000 miles on them. Only complaint is there a a little on the loud side compared to other ATs I’ve ran.

Tire threads are almost as polarizing as politics. Everyone has a completely different opinion.
@Wes_heppy I'm not really sure you can fit 35's without some major work. This has been a point of confusion for me as some folks have fit them without cutting the firewall but most people had to tub the firewall. 3" doesn't seem like enough lift up front to fit 35's.

I run 285/70/17 K02's and I've not had any issues. I've driven in just about every terrain I can think of. A lot of people talk shit about K02's though. They are expensive. When I was pricing tires out the ST MAXX were even more expensive so I decided not to get them as I wasn't sure why they were the most expensive tire I looked at. They seem to have good reviews.

If you are ok with the noise, and you drive in a lot of mud, I would get a mud terrain over an all terrain. That's what I plan to do eventually.

So far my Yokohama Geolander H/T's are great . . . but they are more of a road tire, not an A/T . . . I drive 99% highway, no snow/ice , and very little rain.

I'm super happy with my 285/75/16 Milestar Patagonia M/Ts. fraction of the price of other options, and I've loved the traction. they are not quiet though.

I run STT Pro’s and like them on my 2001 long-travel. High speed off-road and rock crawling when I can get to any. Good so far in everything I’ve tried, but they’re loud on the freeway, if you care.

As typically happens, even though you started this thread in the 1st gen sub-forum, you’re getting responses from drivers of all gens. Good for opinions about how various tires and tread patterns perform, but NOT good for tire size. Despite all the times we’ve heard our trucks can be modified to fit 35’s, we haven’t really seen it... not without serious limitations on articulation and turn radius— so, pretty much, getting 35’s for increased off-road capability doesn’t work for 1st gens. I run 33’s and that is still a work in progress, trying to resolve multiple fitment issues revealed off-pavement.

    GranPa Tires are the best.

Michelin Defenders (only Grans can afford these).

285/75/r16 (The Sweetest of Sweet Spot Size on our trucks).

Rocking on OEM ‘Patrick’ Rims which are increasing in value. Wish I could score the ultra rare Chrome Version which are rumoured to be Hand Made by Tibetian Monks flown into Indiana under a Full Moon.

Thanks for the imput everyone. I am most seriously looking into stt pros and ko2s it seems and I’m not worried about road noise. Yeah i am on the edge for going to all the works to fit 35s.

Oh my favorite, which tire threads! About as productive as mattress reviews. Haha.

I've loved my KO2s. Good life, I'm at 25k with lots of tread left, good snow traction, look good and tough. Little noisy as they wear though.

Starting a new thing where anytime you give an opinion on tires you follow it with YMMV.

I ve been driving on 35" MT Trail Grapplers for the last 8 months. Not the smothest, or quietest, but this snow storm the last few days was nothing. While most were getting stuck, and spending hours using a shovel my truck was a boss. Just the last few days was worth buying these tires.
