    Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a used 2016 Tundra SR5 DoubleCab 4WD. It came with the SR5 Upgrade package (the 38 gallon tank that only has about 34 usable gallons) and the TRD Offroad Upgrade package. It's Barcelona red and only has 37K miles. It's a huge upgrade from my 2001 Tacoma ExtraCab 4WD. I recently did the grille swap because, to my eyes, it had way too much chrome. I did the red surround and bulge with the black insert that says "TOYOTA" in the middle. It looks much better. I also got fake leather seat covers from Oasis and they are actually really nice and fit pretty well.

I took out the back seat yesterday because I'm going to build a platform for my 26-gallon water tank and other camping gear. Two weeks ago, I ordered a custom Tradesman cabover aluminum-framed camper shell. It will be ready in mid-April.

Next up are tires and suspension. I'm going to be pretty tame because I don't want my gas mileage to drop too much. So no 35s for me. I need a lot of mileage range with each fill-up because in Baja, there aren't many gas stations out in the middle of nowhere. So, I'll go with 275/70/18 BF Goodrich KO2s which are only about an inch taller than stock. And I'm leaning toward the Toytec Boss coilovers for a 2-2.5" front lift. I wanted the Bilstein 6112s but they are back-ordered until at least April 01. One thing that puzzles me about this generation of Tundra is the absolute lack of ground clearance. My 2001 Tacoma has two more inches of undercarriage clearance. And my Tacoma actually has a bit more payload capacity according to manufacturer's specs!

I'll figure out the rear suspension after I have the camper shell mounted and interior built-out. I bring about 1,000 lbs. of gear for my 4-8 week surf journeys in Baja. So, I'm expecting quite a bit of sag that will have to be fixed.

I've been lurking here for quite a while and hope to start contributing as much as a noob can.

Welcome. You should check out Zidaro’s Tundra thread over at ExPo. He has been taking his family on extended trips to Baja for years. Lots of pics and info in that thread from deserted beach camping to Tundra mods to places to eat. Makes me want to make the trip from Tennessee.

Your SR5 DC 4WD has 10.6” of ground clearance. Is that so bad? Better than my 5th gen 4Runner when stock.
