where to put a sub in a first gen

does anyone have any clue of a good location to put a subwoofer in a first gen tundra. right now i just have mine sitting on top of the rear seat but i’m trying to gain that seating back. i know there’s that stealth box for the center console but i don’t really want to lose that storage. there’s just not enough space under the rear seats. any ideas?

 

Access or double cab? I've seen a box for an access cab.

 

If you have a double cab there are companies that make either baffles or actual sub boxes that fit in the under rear seat storage areas.

I have a DC but run a self powered Rockford Punch 8 under the front passenger seat.

Fits alright but had some vibration against the seat rails. I put a piece of 1" thick high density pillow foam on the top and bottom, works great. Puts out a surprising amount of bass for it's size

Yup. Once you price out subs, box, and amp may as well buy the self powered.

 

I also went cheap with the sub cause I just need a little low end. I mean I'm not 17 anymore haha. $89 off Amazon with a $30 wiring kit and I was set.

 

He already has a sub, amp and wiring.

Access cab or double cab?

Access cab you can build a baffle into the rear passenger side compartment and put an 8" or a shallow 10" in. Won't sound amazing being free air but you'll have your seat back. Or you can spend $350 on the dual 8" qlogic box and buy 8" subs for it. Expensive option but gets what you want.

Double cab has a much larger compartment under the driver side rear where you can fit 2 8'' subs in a baffle and have more room to seal up the sides for better sound.

 

I had a custom box built for a 10" Punch ran it off some old school amps in my 06 DC, when I owned it..
Could remove the sub quickly if needed..

If I had it to do over again, I'd make an enclosure under the rear seat and buy a swing case or something to put my stuff in.

 

I have a Kenwood powered sub under the rear passenger seat in my double cab. It won't rattle the windows but fits my need. Had to move the jack and lug wrench to my tool box.

 

I put one of these under the front passenger seat of my brothers truck.

I pulled the smaller section of my rear seat and put a 12" there. I would never use it anyways because my seat would always be all the way back and nobody could fit there. Have had it in there for about 8 months with no issues. I'll grab pics in the morning if you want them.

 

I love those old Punch Amps! The Orion reds were bad ass as well...back in the day.

just wondering, if any of these guys are still alive [@tundras.com ha-ha]...
But if using the passenger rear-under seat box, obviously you 86 the Toyota amp and therefore skip the 'ByPass harness' and now direct wiring to speaks from replacement HU?
Or did I miss something, or just answered my owm question?
