First post hope it’s in right spot. Have done a lot of research on this forum, other forums, internet and have not been able to find any pictures that show actual thread when CB shims installed on factory style top hat. So I know they are out there as a lot of you guys/ girls run CB shims.

I have the ever so annoying tundra lean. Didn’t find out until eibach/toytec coil overs were installed. Emailed CB and he recommended running 2 .25”shims on driver and 1 .25” on passenger. Simple math tells me the 2 shims will equal .5” of shims (equals 1” of lift/ JBA UCA ordered) so I measured threads showing on driver side and I have exactly .5” thread showing. I trust CB as he is really respected on this forum and was super easy to deal with. I am just a visual person and am reaching out to see if there is any pics of top hat/ threads remaining with 2 .25” shims installed and if it has been working for y’all.

I am going to try and attach picture to show what Iam looking for . Thank you in advance.

So my concern is if there is enough threads for nut to fit onto bolts with 2 .25” shims installed ?

I appreciate it. I’m confident it should work. Would just like someone with past experience to chime in before I get it torn down to pull coils.

Absolutely ! That's the beauty of a forum such as this . . . there has to be someone out there with a similar experience.
Keep us posted with your results.

Will do. Yea I lurked on here for a long time before I made a profile. Everyone seems to be very helpful and there are some people on here that are really talented. First tundra (bought new) but it’s totally different than my old leaf sprung 7.3L that I sold and regret . Not that the tundra isn’t awesome. I just get that diesel itch every once in a while.

Welcome to the forum, if you're not in a hurry and haven't pulled your coilovers yet give CB a call he'll have the answer. You may need the bolt kit he sells, I know it's required when running Icon, Fox etc. with 2 shims. Not sure about your setup though.20210120_045903.jpg

Here’s what my TRD Pro suspension top hat looks like with 2 shims. I think you’ll be fine as long as you have full thread engagement.

Thank you for the welcome and for your response. I originally thought this was my easy fix. But these can only be used on the good stuff (brands similar to what you mentioned).

Mine are similar to factory where bolts face up and I believe are built in to metal top and can’t be removed (correct me if I’m wrong) from metal top plate of coil-over. These are if the bolts drop in from top and hold coil over in. If that makes sense

How many miles have you put on truck with set up like this and have you noticed the nuts back off of bolts ? Thanks again

I plan on putting loc-tite of course and marking bolts/nut with paint just to keep an eye on them.

I believe you are correct, I installed Bilstein 6112's that came preassembled and only a driverside shim and couldn't remember if the bolts were removable or not.

That’s what I’ve gathered as well. Mine were reassembled too. Thought I wouldn’t have lean but I do and it drives me nuts.:mad:. nobody has noticed it but I know it’s there especially with full tank of gas. Plus I get occasional rub on driver side body mount. Don’t feel it at all but dust/dirt gets whiped off . Only reason I even know it rubs

    Happy to help :hattip:
I’ve driven 2-3k miles since then, including some off road time, and haven’t had any issues. The torque spec on those isn’t very high either, but loctite wouldn’t be a bad idea as insurance.

Consider nylock nuts, it will help with the risk of them backing out. Personally, and professionally (as a mechanic) I wont install fasteners that dont have thread run off. Even a single thread is better than none. When no run off occurs theres a chance it wont fully seat the nut and be more apt to unfasten.

That makes sense and that was something I considered as well. Looked through different dealerships online and looked at diagrams but couldn’t find nut size. Don’t know if anybody knows what nut size it is? You believe the nylock nuts would be better than using loc-tite? Because I’ve been taught to not use nylock nuts and loc-tite with nylock nuts, is that correct? Thanks and good point

Might want to confirm with Wheelers, but these should work: Also, anti-seize with Nylock will just end up gluing the thread cap that works into the threads. I wouldnt recommend that, but I never have tried it either. One or the other should be good. I also paint a line on mounting nuts like these to keep a visual check on them.

Sweet thank you. This sounds good to go. I’ll update once it’s completed just in case somebody else is in my shoes and share which route I go.

    @18-YOTA

I have installed the Eibach setup on my Tundra and a buddy's. I used 2 shims on the driver side and none on the passenger and I am almost perfect side to side. We installed 2 shims on drivers and 1 on passenger on my buddy's and he still has some lean. We are about to pull the one on the passenger side. Just something to think about.

    Really? Interesting.

perfect situation for my question then. Did y’all have enough threads on the driver side after installing the 2 shims? I’m assuming toytec used the same top hat when they assembled yalls.

Mine is exactly .5” lower on driver side with a full tank of gas as it seems all are different. Eibach kit has been on for about 3 months so I think it has settled.

Good deal. Looks good. That 1st picture was impossible to find on the internet during my search. If I ever did stumble across something there was not enough information it was simply just a picture.

Everyone who has chimed in and posted pics and given their advice, it is greatly appreciated. Thank you and this is exactly why I joined this forum. I won’t be that guy who post and leaves so I will update this thread once it is completed and hopefully it can help somebody else.

Not the best picture in the world but wanted to update as soon as possible. Finally got shims installed (2 CB shims driver and 1 passenger). JBA UCA’s installed as well.

There are still a few threads showing on driver side top hat threads, as I was originally asking about. Everything worked out great and yes it’s possible, if anybody else ever has same concerns in the future. Truck rides awesome and the UCA’s really let the front suspension travel now. Very happy with this set up.

Thanks again to everybody that helped out:cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

    ***UPDATE***
Finally got some measurements and with a full tank of gas. The driver side lean is less than 1/4 of an inch. I can never keep this truck full of gas so imma call it even lol. Have not noticed any body mount rub and truck now sits where I was initially shooting for. UCA’s are awesome and would highly recommend this set up
