Hi everyone. hoping to kill two birds with one post.

has anyone added an AUX input to the stock head unit? I have a 2021 TRD Sport crewmax with car play. I am sure I can figure it out but why reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it.

Second question, the old TRD logo with the stripes, I have seen pictures of it both ways, yellow-orange-red and red-orange-yellow...which way is correct? Bonus points if you can tell me what the colors represent. Picture attached for reference.

    Thank you in advance.

The Toyota racing colors aren’t consistent in order of presentation.

In the 1970’s and 80’s it was often presented as red, orange and yellow if placed on a vehicle in a mirror image on both sides left to right. If up down, red was on the bottom.

    upload_2021-2-4_21-15-1.jpg

However in the racing truck applications and Ivan Stewart, the presentation grew towards a solid color like red at the rear of the truck and orange, then yellow to the front.

But then then they went red up on the hood.

So @BlancaLaGordita all that to say that all of those decals are all technically correct.

I think I understand what you're trying to say, but using the pics posted, that's not what I see. In the first picture we have to ignore the 99 car in the foreground, as that's the only one with the colors going horizontally along the car. However, if you look at the rest (including the 98 car in the first photo), you see that it goes Yellow, Orange, Red from front to back. Even on the hood. The only difference from the 98 in the first pic is that they used a red stripe and the newer cars go full red to the tail. This is easily explained away as evolution of the scheme.

Now, how this translates to merch, I'd say that if it's like a hat, make it go yellow, orange, red from front to back. Same with decals. As far as something like a keychain, as long as orange is in the middle, I don't think it matters as the order on the car from left to right, is opposite depending what side you're looking at.

Hard to tell which ones are the American made knock offs, haha.

I haven't seen anyone add an AUX in. Is there a purpose to want to add it besides music? I never knew there would be a reason for it, but if there's a reason I'm sure someone on here could figure it out/do it.

I couldn't quickly find a version that was used before the 98/99 cars. Sorry, I was lazy - I couldn't fast find the pics I remember of 1970's Corollas where the number plate was identical on both sides of the vehicle. In that case, it was red to the front on the passenger (Japanese market) side. I will see if I can find the pic, but it was in a book I had/have.

I'd be interested to see that. From a quick Google search, the only ones I can find that are older than the 98 and 99 are red and white, no orange or yellow.

Here's another one with the horizontal stripes:

The hard part with Google image search is so many of the pics are "inspired by" vs the originals. I checked my shelf and I don't have the book anymore :(

But I remember it was older than these and they were Japanese market (RHD):

To your radio question, I have bought two refurbished OEM units (Jeep and Ford) with aux audio input jacks, from 1factoryradio.com. The Jeep one is still here (I moved the Ford down the road, to the sound of polite applause from onlookers). I use an old iPhone 4 as a music library, and plug the earphone cord into the radio face plate. Works great. Another way to connect is via a bluetooth dongle that plugs into the radio and allows control via my phone from outside the cockpit.

As for my new to me 2002 Tundra, the radio face code is 16815 and 1Factory told me they could no longer source parts to repair the tape deck function. I persuaded them that I cared not about that part of the unit, only the tuner and CD. I put it this way, "For all I care, you can put a piece of polished marine teak in the tape slot and locate the input jack there." They have s sense of humor and liked the idea, so they agreed to build me one, and have parts on order for it. I expect it to work just as well as the Jeep one.
