OEM rotors?

So do you guys go oem or aftermarket I can get a pair of oem front rotors from my dealer for about $134
Or rock auto anywhere $45-$160 for a pair.

 

I run the Powerstop Z23 from Rockauto and am not disappointed. Have stainless hoses on the way too.

 

$134 each or as a set?

I replaced mine with NAPA’s premium rotors and I think their ALTROM brake pads. Smooth stopping for 17k miles and counting.

 

I have some Aftermarkets (unsure of brand) that a 4wheel Place installed about 2.5 years ago. They are holding nicely considering the OEM ones that warped on me in less than a year. Drove for 15 years on warped OEM rotors.

 

For my driving habits, OEM is plenty good for me BUT.... one of my neighbors gave me one heck of a deal on a front set of Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors the other day. I was tempted to change the stock rotors when I changed the brake pads 2 years ago but didn't. Now I figure its time so I ordered the back set and am getting that done today. At 149,000 miles and being turned twice, the original ones (I assume) did their job and earned a brake.

 

$134 for a front pair.
But sounds like you guys are having good luck with aftermarket so I’ll just save the extra money for other stuff and go aftermarket.
Just wanted to make sure this wasn’t an OEM only item recommendation.

 

Yea my steering wheel has had a slight shimmy when I initially hit the brakes for 6months of ownership but otherwise stops fine .

 

The high speed shimmy at brake tap and the slow pulse coming to a slow stop were my symptoms.

New equipment was a nice change. One thing the shop didn’t do was remove the paper/corrosion from the wheel mating backing. I read that it was highly important to do so even with the little I had and thought this is bs!

Ended up wire brushing all 4’s and used a Torque Wrench on the Lugs, too. Hey it really does make a difference!

True that. When I installed my Powerstop Z32 front kit last year I did new aftermarket rear drums, shoes, and cylinders. Had a wicked shake. Had to get the new drums machined out to get good even braking performance. I had never had to get brand new stuff machined before.

 

I've had good luck with Maxbrakes.com. I got the Premium XDS with the rust coating, free shipping too!

A quick tip: The OEM Drums come ‘balanced’. Most of our Rear Drums come with a little weight welded to the side of them.

 

I replaced my rear drums, shoes and hardware with all Napa stuff and so far, smooth sailing.

Prior to this, brakes worked ok but when I was coming to a stop, it always pulled left. Not terrible, but enough you that you had to counter steer to keep it going straight. I got used it it but now that everything has been replaced, I can mash the brakes with my hand off the steering wheel and it’s as straight as an arrow.
