2019 tundra crewmax-JBL speakers

I was told by a stereo shop owner that if i add an amp to the stock jbl speakers in my tundra, the speakers wont be able to handle the amp and will blow my speakers. is that true? I looked all over to see if anyone installed an amp to the stock JBL speakers and couldn't find anything.. running a amp jl audio rd500 to the rear 2 8's kicker.. temporary till the jl audio box comes in..

 

The stock JBL speakers are junk.

 

A pretty reputable local shop in my area told me that the JBL door speakers are actually pretty good quality but have the wrong signals and low amperage going to them. With the correct signals and power they can sound good.

With that said, I installed the OEM Audio Plus system and while they are still only powered by the stock amp, they are now getting a better signal (with the OEM AUDIO PLUS “acoustic filter”-crossover) and sound way better.

 

I guess if you consider a $5.00 speaker good, that will work. I will stand by the statement that they are complete junk.

 

They will sound much better with proper wattage but not nearly as good as $80 to $350 speakers with a quality amp.

 

I had a JL system in my 2016 4Runner and for the cost of it from the dealership, you can put together an aftermarket system that will better it x10.
I made the mistake of keeping the Oem head unit on my 2019 tundra and and tried to make it sound good upgrading to Focal Flax components all around and JL 10wt3s with JL VXI amps with built in DSP. I wanted to keep the head unit stock but there’s not much you can do with a dirty weak signal from the factory head unit. It did sound much better, but I just bit the bullet and installed a new head unit and it instantly made my system sound miles above with the same speakers and amps. No regrets.

 

Other members have seen great results from the HU alone, so I believe you. I would imagine that upgrading any component would be an upgrade.

 

JBL is terrible in the Tundra, also looking to make change. However, the JBL in limited 4runner is absolutely amazing IMO

 

I’ve never heard it in a Tundra, but in my 2016 limited 4-runner, it would clip very easily. It did sound decent at lower volumes, but I like my music loud when driving alone. The weak link was the subwoofer, and I was debating on putting this kenwood excelon that supposedly would be a direct swap that was a huge improvement without changing anything else. I got rid of it before I did anything anyways.

 

this friday, finaly got SB-T-TCMAX/10TW3 installed, had the rd500, exchanged it for the JD1000/1.. running oem jbl HU and front and rear door speakers. that box hit soo hard, its unbelievable. when the tech was tuning the stereo, i was standing at least 40 feet away, and the bass was soo clear and pounding. the whole sound system totally changed. night and day. i was blown away.. money well spent. i knew before installation, the system was gonna sound better,, better never thought it would sound like this. if anyone have the same set up as mines, would like to hear your opinion on the system..

 

Ugrading very shortly with new HU and amp. My shop said that I'll see a noticeable difference even with the stock speakers. At this point the OEM JBL system isn't enough to overpower the TRD headers with the windows down, and max volume with clarity is about 53 of 62. Anything over that just starts distorting and hurting my ears. I'll update after the new system is installed.

 

what HU are you going with?

 

I'm liking the Kenwood 9707S, but my shop is telling me they can only get a Pioneer NEX4600. I don't know if I want to wait or just by the HU and have them install with the rest of the system. They all seem to have about the same functionality for a Double DIN system. Anything beyond that is simply fluff that I'll probably never use.

 

If you put in a Kenwood receiver you will not need a AMP. if you already like your current receiver or radio you can just put in a AMP. I put a amp with my JBL in my 2012 Tacoma I had no problems with the sound then I added a Kenwood receiver.

Things were starting to rattle back there after a couple of weeks of pounding. So I added killmat under stock padding. now its sound like the day it was installed, big difference.

 

I added a 8 channel JBL amp/DSP and a 10" sub from JRT to my stock system and it made world of difference. It's not going to win a competition but I now have good bass and fantastic volume. take a look at his site - https://shop.tech12volts.com/. Thanks for the info.. Great site. not sure which direction i will take, speakers first, or amp first. either way, both is an improvement. and that goes same for me,, not trying to win a competition, but only to win against my co-workers! being 55 yo, and out bumping my 30 yo coworkers, really makes them feel like losers... JUST KIDDING, LOL!
