    Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but have owned a Tundra since I bought it new in 2005. I have recently purchased a 2020 SR5 Cavalry Blue Tundra.
Anyways, I just bought a color match hood bulge and the color seems slightly off. I looked on the box it came in and it says Greyish Blue not Cavalry Blue. I was just wondering if anyone has any insight to this situation of colors being named differently or color matching not being exact.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Brian (from San Diego county)

Most bulges are slightly off. There’s no grayish blue color so I’m sure they just wrote that so they wouldn’t get it mixed up with all the other blues.

My 2014 MGM hood bulge and TRD Pro surround is a tad off from the hood and fenders.
I bought both the truck and bulge new.
Back then I had to have the grille surround locally painted and it matches the hood bulge more than the body paint..
But I never noticed it until 5 years later posting some pics..

Any color difference that one notices, is only because you are looking for it.
The average ham and egger will never notice....

As someone who used to paint cars for a living... The same exact paint from the same paint code will most always be "a little bit off". Because each batch is different. When mixing - a drop here and a drop there when mixing the formula. When painting - humidity variations between Monday paint day and Thursday paint day, etc,etc.. Temperature. Air pressure. Distance of the gun from the part. There are so many variables.
The only way to be certain that the paint will be an exact match is to paint all panels and parts of the vehicle from the same bucket of paint, on the same day, in the same paint session. It is pure luck if paint from different buckets matches exactly, it happens, but it is not predictable.

    Alot of them
As mentioned, there are many variables. Most people won't even notice. Paint will also vary in color on metal versus plastic. My Barcelona has about 13 different shades from lighter to darker if you look at the chip cards. Me personally, I cannot see a difference between my bulge and the hood.

I often see Aftermarket or descriptions of Cavalry Blue as "Greyish Blue" on ebay Paint Pens, vinyl overlays etc and usually has the same paint code of 8W2

The labels for Cavalry Blue items from Toyota say Greyish Blue. My grille and bulge did. It does in the description of the items on the Cool Springs store. Just how they have it labelled. That is Cavalry blue.

Thanks for the welcome and quick responses.
I was thinking the metal and plastic would have a slight difference, also not being painted at the same time would cause an issue.
I am color blind so maybe that's why I can see a difference.
I will take some pictures and post them a little later.
    Thanks again for the responses.

Check the build link in my signature.
Welcome from the wet side of WA.
I’ve found that the “parts system” color names for a lot of the Toyota colors don’t match the flashy “marketing names” so the Greyish Blue thing doesn’t surprise me. Army Green is in the part system as “Dark Green” and Lunar Rock is listed in their systems as “Urban Khaki.”

Hood Bulge.jpg I was finally able to upload a picture. Any comments will be appreciated. Those that did a Cavalry Blue hood bulge does yours look slightly darker like mine does?
