What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I feel like you may have it flip flopped. Driver side has the needle bearing and the seal is pushed flush. Impossible to mess that side up IMO. Passenger side has the axle tube. It's 5.2-5.8mm. Info in this tread.

@rock climber now would be a great time to do the ECGS bushing. Do you have it?

Here is what the driver side looks like once you remove the old seal and instal the new bushing. Frenchie gave me a 2" PVC cap to push in the new seals I think. Worked well.

 

Is that from 05-07?

I think that’s part of the lense.

 

Its been a while since I did my gauges but I think the clear plastic piece was one piece, this was one piece then you remove the needles and the thin gauge face comes off.

just spent some time trying to see if my Avalon wired for heater mirrors and the such.. its the opposite of my tundra... Doors are wired. DASH IS NOT. damnit... so looks like when i do my dash replacement (its cracking... badly) i'll be running all those wires... damnit spoiled by the tundra and corolla by having heated mirrors now

Pulled the rear third tonight and discovered that the axle shaft guide on driver side is broken/detached from the axle itself. I have no idea how that would even happen / I had zero hang up pulling the axle shaft out.

That said, is there any concern with just removing the guide from the axle entirely? I feel like it's just a thin piece of metal there to help when putting things back together, and not a critical part?

 

It's not just a guide. It is a splash guard to help keep fluid from going down the axle tube too fast and leaving the R&P dry.

I'd recommend putting it back in place.

 

is the axle fully seated? that piece is welded in... should move.. shaft not bent?

 

Shaft doesn't appear bent, though it's dark. I can check again in the morning to confirm. Understanding it's welded (more so tack'd), it appears it was punched through from the PO. I can't think of how else it would be detached from the top? There's the off chance I could have knocked it loose I suppose, but I was struggling just to get the axle shafts out far enough to pull the third, wasn't pushing inward at all.

 

I’ve never seen one come off. Even after hitting one pretty hard when I slipped with the axle shaft... I personally wouldn’t remove it. Keeps too much fluid from getting away from the ring gear when turning.

 

Yes, the 2007 limited sequoia with air suspension has white font and white needles lit up behind a tinted face. Looks pretty nice. Much more modern, especially the startup sequence.

 

For future refence /closure to my question. Baffle is not welded, and simply wedges itself into place within the axle. Just needed to bend back into position. Still confused on how it got so bent but glad it was a simple fix.

 

Replacing a leaking front passenger side cv axle seal, and it didn’t look too worn. (Actually looked new) Pulled it and found this gouge in the housing from a previous removal apparently. I was going to smooth it out with some 400 grit.
Anyone chime in with thoughts? This sound ok, should I try to fill it with something after smoothing the rough edge?

 

Try a small metal file instead of the sandpaper if you have it. Maybe try some Toy 103 FIPG to fill in the knick after smoothing. Permatex works if you’re in a pinch.

 

Won't hurt anything IMO, just smooth it. But you could use a bit of FIPG.

 

Tried looking for the windshield fluid level sensor that’s never worked from the day I bought the truck. Didn’t see it from underneath the right front bumper where I can see the bottom of the tank. Got too cold out after 10 minutes in 15 degree temperatures with a sub-zero cross wind.

Anyone ever replace it?

 

Shined the big girl up today, 303’d interior, put new Weathertechs in. I’d say she’s good to go for a while.

 

I think you need to drop the tank down to see it from some pictures I’ve observed in the past. Sneaky.

 

Spent several hours up under the truck with salt away wash, hot water, and a pressure washer. Was like 37 degrees today, so the ole girl got a steam bath lol. Shoved the gun up in the frame in as many places as I could. Body got sprayed with salt away also

tomorrow she gets fluid film. Been meaning to get this done for awhile but shit happens. I was actually surprised how much fluid film was left over from last years treatment especially towards the rear of the truck

 

Figured I should put the tin foil skid on before a trail run with some cats I’ve never been w before so I’m not “that guy” that pops his radiator or something stupid!

 

This whole post confuses me greatly. Where is the foot of snow in the yard? Where are the bent plantings from gale winds? Where is the 2 from in front of the 5 on your odometer?
none of this makes sense to me.

 

Despite you guys having these clean trucks, I decided I'd show off my dirty one! It's too cold right now to use my power washer and I don't want to hurt the new paint.

I got my camper shell back the other day from the paint shop. Unfortunately it needed a little fiberglass work and it ended up being a bit more expensive than I was planning. Buy once cry once I suppose. I'm glad I was able to support a local business at least.

I installed all new seals and a new taillight for the shell. I even made my very first pigtail quick connect for the shell's taillight and cargo light.

 

Welp. Got the regeard/locked third installed in the rear today. Also dropped the front out before sundown. Need to swap a.d.d. over to the new front clamshell in the morning and put everything back together. Excited to feel power again with the 4.88s.

I didn't have much time for photos today because I was running solo, bench pressing 2 f*cking diffs, the latter of which with the rock lights on while teaching my neighborhood a few new words before I turned in for supper.
