How do you say goodbye to an old friend?

LOL yup. Showing my age a little. I was 18 when I bought the car. Loved the heck out of it. Needed tires so when I got the money saved up I bought some Dayton raised white letter radials.
The pioneer, I cant recall the model number but I had a good $700 in that system, thats in 1984 $$$. The damn thieves left went after the amp/equilizer each time. Had pioneer 4 way speakers in the back deck.

Buddy had a monte carlo with a system that would pop his back glass LOL.

After it was wrecked it got sold off, body was knocked off the frame and frame twisted, I went into the windshield and put a good sized dent in it with my left shoulder. I saw it on the road a few months later then lost track of it. Until one day I saw it in a lot by a body shop, stopped and asked about it, guy said it belonged to a local attorney. I called the attorney he said he was holding it in exchange for payment, and if he was not paid would call me and give me a chance to buy it. He never called me, No idea what happened after that but I would have grabbed if I had the chance.
It was looking pretty ragged out at that point but I would have spent the cash to bring it back.

Only car I ever felt some odd bond with. For some unknown reason. I have thought about finding another but it would not be same.

 

i have a bad habbit of becoming attached to my cars.. LOL 01 taco? first truck. gift from my father.. thats a keeper. My 06 corolla? kept that thing going for over 800k miles. it felt like losing a dog when it got totaled. absolutely sucked. my 05 tundra? its new to me (almost 2 years now).. but i have a feeling i'll own it for a long time.. i put too much time into these clunkers to want to get rid of them..

 

This was too sad to read, I initially thought your dog died, I can empathize with you been there done that. Hold on to your truck otherwise you will regret it!

 

If you do sell it, find someone who has the same aspirations of enjoyment it has given you. There are lots of folks looking for a good budget adventurer.

 

I was attached to a mustang GT. It was my first new car and my wife and I had taken it on stupendously memorable trips.

I took care of it like it was the last automobile on planet earth.

I ended up selling it at a massive discount to a relative. I thought it would be really hard. But I guess knowing someone else I care for has it is enough.

Plus I had already moved on from muscle cars...and I needed space for another 5th gen 4runner. lol..

 

If you can, keep it. After selling my first truck and first house, I've vowed to never get emotionally attached to material items again. I can tell you'll regret it.

 

Of the 60+ vehicles that I have owned, my '71 Lemans Sport convertible "The Judge" clone with a .30 over Ram Air 455 H.O., Turbo 400, a 12 bolt posi, and a suspension beefed up with Pontiac Police package parts is the only one I wish I had managed to keep. That car was huge fun.

 

1st Gen Tacomas continue to hold their value. I'm assuming it's paid for, so unless you really need to money to put into your Tundra I would keep it. It's a very different truck being so much smaller, I would not mind having both in the stable.

 

That Tacoma looks new and trail worthy.

I recently sold a 2003 s10 that I bought in 2004. I drove it a year and sold it to my dad. He passed away June 2020 and I got it back. It had only 54k miles. I have 2 kids and this s10 is a regular cab. I rarely go anywhere without my boys with me so I couldn't really drive it much. I put 20 miles on it in six months and had to make a decision. I decided to let it go but never really advertised it just kept my ear to the ground. Soon enough a guy at works son had his daily driver blow an engine so I sold it him. He's a hard worker with a "drive it till the wheels fall off" kinda person so I didn't feel bad for helping someone out. All that said, if the s10 would've fit everyone comfortably I would've kept it.

I had a hard time parting with my '00 tundra. Lots of great memories in that truck. But it had a lot of rust after 20 New England winters, and was getting harder and harder to keep reliable. I had to let it go. Not gonna lie, I still miss it.

If I was in a position like you, with a truck that was in good shape, and lived where you live? I'd consider building a dedicated trail rig - big tires, all the goodies... something that I could wrench on when I had time, but didn't need to be ready to get me to work on Monday morning... something that I didn't have to worry about warranties, or a gazillion electronic sensors and gizmo's... teach my old dog some new tricks so to speak.

 

I'd keep it!

 

I thought I was the only one! I also miss my Tacoma and wish that I had kept it. It was like selling a child the day that I traded it in on the Tundra. I bought the Tacoma new in 2002 and had it for 16 years, without any problems. I love the Tundra, but there was just something about the Tacoma that makes me second-guess my decision. Instead of buying the Tundra TRD Sport and using the $9,000 trade-in from the Tacoma I could have bought a base model Tundra for $9,000 less and kept the Tacoma, and still had the same payment on the Tundra. But life moves on... It's all good.

 

I m the oposite. I say let it go. Eventually attachment will become ball and chain
