Transfer Case oil ATF WS?

Went to my local dealer to get the fluids for front & rear diff and transfer case. They said that they could no longer sell the LF 75W for the diffs.

They could sell me the transfer case oil, which they sold me the ATF WS. I just read in the Haynes manual and it calls for LF 75W. Is the ATF WS a replacement for the LF 75W?

Should I just go with

$39 75W-90 GL-5 Limited Slip, Ultra Long Drain 500k Miles, Manual Transmission, Gear/Differential Lubricant (1 Gallon)

75W-90 for front & rear diff and the transfer case?

 

Got all my Toyota fluids off Amazon. Used Transfer Gear Oil LF 75W for the xfer case and Differential Gear Oil LT GL5 75W-85 for diffs

 

Lot of discussion, lot of opinions.

Lot of different experiences with different weights as well.

Been using Ravenol myself for 40/50k issue free.

 

Yup, I was cruising thru the threads and YouTube and I see a lot of people using the Ravenol. I guess I could order some off of Amazon and use the 3 qts of ATF WS that I already have when I do my transmission service.

 

It really boils down to your personal experience and comfort on which fluid to run. Some run 75w90 issue free, while others do not. You could try and see what happens.

I'm sticking with the Ravenol myself, been happy. Been thinking of sending out a used oil analysis to see how its help up over the past 30k.

 

A little mixed up I think. The Toyota WS is for the automatic transmission. The diffs (both front and back ) use 75w-85 gear oil (Toyota Part #

$48 08885-02506 GL-5 75W-85 Differential Gear Oil

08885-02506) or Ravenol MTF1 which is about the same cost. The transfer case uses 75W gear oil, Toyota Part#

08885-81080. It is quite expensive. I have read that Toyota dealerships use the diff fluid instead. The Ravenol 75w gear oil, equivalent to the specified transfer case Toyota fluid, is MTF-3 and much less costly.

The Toyota dealership told me the transfer case gets the ATF WS, I took their word for it. When I got home I looked up the specs and it calls for 75W. So my question is is the AFT WS a suitable replacement for the 75W?

The Toyota ATF WS is $10.00 a quart.
Ravenol 75W on Amazon is $18.69 a Liter.

Seems the ATF WS is cheaper.

 

I would not use ATF where it calls for gear oil. WS is a low viscosity fluid. Just thicker than water.

Dealership probably mistook TC for trans. They aren't all that smart.

No - ATF WS is not suitable for your transfer case. For the Transfer Case, you will need 1.6 liters. The Toyota oil is $78.75/liter on Amazon.

Lot of discussion that Dealerships themselves do not use the 75w Toyota Oil in the Transfer Case but instead use the 75w-85 oil that is specified for the differentials. It is $41.41/liter on Amazon. The Ravenol equivalent is MTF-1 which is $16.40/liter on Blauparts.

FYI, you may get a better price at your Dealership on the Toyota fluids vs the Amazon sellers.

Ravenol is a perfect replacement oil, on par if not better than Toyota's. My case is good as new after the change. Highly recommended.

Whoever told you to use WS on the case must never be allowed to touch a car.
