Just picked up my first tundra 02 v6 5speed 2wd. 220k miles. Unknown. Previous service so I changed all fluids did the timing belt water pump bearings and both lower ball joints. Any other issues these trucks have? Just want a reliable second vehicle for myself.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new ride. At 220k miles, everything suspension should be inspected. For some reason the average joe never replaces shocks on their vehicle. They do not last 220k miles. Few last beyond the 80k mile mark. Ball joints were a great choice, they are a failure point. Brakes are also in need of inspection. If not already done, the larger caliper upgrade, complete brake system flush and rear brake adjustment. The usual suspects after that. Spark plugs, air filter, Fuel filter (since yours is an 02), throttle body cleaning and MAF cleaning. That should get you another 80-90k miles. Then rinse and repeat.

Original radiator? Next coolant change you should inspect the transmission hose line into/out of the radiator. Corrosion at the junction has led to the pink milkshake which can destroy your engine. Personally I think if someone changes their coolant regularly it won’t be an issue as I haven’t seen an ounce of corrosion on mine with changes every 30k miles. Just my 2 cents since you don’t have a maintenance history.

    Welcome for MA.

We’ve had a rash of 1st time posters today. There must have been a coupon or something...?

Welcome to the club Schneider. Frame rust can be an issue, but as others have said these are pretty stout trucks.

Rust free frame az truck all it’s life. Took a fence post hit to the hood grill and radiator that’s how I came across it. Replaced the core support along with radiator I plan to replace all the front end parts as well as rubber suspension pieces as they are all dry rotted. The truck does however drive extremely straight and smooth minus a groan when you compress the front suspension. Just plan on a smooth driver to do truck stuff. I e read that the bilstine shocks are the way to go. I’m not planning a lift or prerunner just stock height.

Front suspension groan, that's not good. Could be busted shock, UBJ, or some of those dry rotted bushing bits. Groans are often metal to metal, like an upper ball joint.

Welcome. Sounds like you have to know how to work on vehicles so that’s a plus. I’ve got 209K miles and about to do upper and lower control arms as well as upper ball joints. Yours may need to same with the groaning noise or it COULD just be shocks. Hard to know without hearing it.
