I’ve searched, read, etc... I see a lot of info, but nothing to stitch together a clear path for me.

I have a 2018 SR5 with the TRD Offroad package, so I currently sit on Bilstein 4600’s all around. I like the ride. I enjoy driving the truck. I am hoping to just level the nose though. It’s also time for the factory tires to go. They’ve been fine, but they are at 46000 miles and starting to slip on my rainy Oregon roads.

My Tundra is mostly pavement-babied, with some excursions into rock quarries, rough logging roads, and farmlands. I put alot of miles on the truck with my commute.

I do need to plan to tow some -in the future- if I get an RV to pull, which is fairly likely. I can of course do mods then if needed.

So my questions: I asked for and got Bilstein 5100’s for the front. My plan is go middle notch, and go just about level. I will then be on 5100’s up front and 4600’s in the rear.

I have read arguments on both sides of the 5100’s regarding ride quality, etc.. I am going to try them. I’ll save my 4600’s and keep an open mind if this goes badly.

On to tires. It’s just about time. I have a set of black powdercoated 18” TRD Offroad wheels ready to go. I want to mount them to tires that will fit my driving, but also fill out the wheel wells a bit.

So, now you know what size wheels and suspension height I’ll be at. I need help figuring out what tires I should go with, at least size-wise.

I am hoping to avoid losing power for eventual towing. I also would prefer not to have to put fender flares on, but if I must... I will.

Thanks everybody, I look forward to getting some ideas!

im no suspension or wheel and tire guru, but if you have not seen this yet maybe it could help you out on possible tire sizing. gl with your build

    Second and Third Gen Tundra
    No Lift Kit
    Max tire sizes are:
    • 18″ rims: 285/65 R18 – 5/10ths taller and 4/10ths wider than factory. Trimming may be necessary.
    • 20″ rims: 275/60 R20 – one inch taller but same width as factory
    1.5 – 2″ Leveling Kit (or less)
When installing a leveling kit, you might be able to fit some wider tires than what we have listed. It may require some trimming though, but it is possible.
    Max tire sizes are:
    • 18″ rims: 275/70 R18 – One inch taller but same width as factory.
    • 18″ rims: 285/70 R18 – 4/10ths wider and 1.7 inches taller than factory. Trimming may be necessary.
    • 18″ rims: 295/65 R18 – 1 inch taller, 8/10ths wider than factory. Trimming is probably needed due to width.
    • 20″ rims: 285/60 R20 – 4/10ths wider and 1.5 inches taller than factory.
    3″ Lift Kit
With a 3″ lift kit, the options continue to get better. However, the wider the tire, the greater the likelihood of trimming.
    Max tire sizes are:
    • 18″ rims: 285/75 R18 – 4/10ths wider and 2.8″ taller than factory.
    • 18″ rims: 305/70 R18 – 1.2 inches wider and 2.8″ taller than factory. There are Tundra owners running this size, but trimming is required. Replacing the stock wheels with after-market 18′s that have less backspacing is recommended.
    • 20″ rims: 285/65 R20 – 4/10ths wider, 1.6″ taller than factory.
    • 20″ rims: 305/60 R20 – 1.2 inches wider and 2.4″ taller than factory. There are Tundra owners running this size, but trimming is required (it’s a tight fit).

Cooper AT3 XLT tire. Lightest. Longest warranty. Quietest. Toyo AT strong second. After that all the tires get heavy or louder.

    Thanks both!

If I do go with tires about an inch larger, do I need to be worried about power loss for towing?

There are people running 35 and 37 inch tires on the stock gears. Is their MPG that of a diesel? Heck no. One inch increase in tire size will make hardly any difference. Just check the weight of the tires versus other companies. Hence the Cooper AT3 XLT recommendation.

Looking very hard at them! They also appear to be more available right now.

    Thanks again, ZOA.

    Tastefully enhanced...
Cooper ST Maxx have a solid tread wear and tho they aren't as quiet as the AT3s, I feel they look and perform amazing on all terrains...just another suggestion...

I'm on 5100s middle setting with 275/70r18 KO2s for the last 30k miles. I like the set up pretty good but planning a refresh. The tires had the biggest impact negatively on the ride. The 5100s stiffened it up a little in a good way making it feel more planted but the E rated KO2s definitely made it rougher especially in the rear of the truck. Not saying it's bad just know going to a different tire can make a big difference. The Cooper AT3 XLT does seem like a good choice based on your intended use. Here is mine on 5100s middle setting with 275/70r18 KO2s for reference

5100’s on middle setting, any UCA issues? Need alignment after install?
    Looks fantastic!

No UCA issues. Yes, I needed alignment after install of the 5100s.

I have the same setup and tire size. Only had to get an alignment. I like how it looks and roses good. Definitely looks better than stock.

I have Bilstein 5100s on middle setting on my gen 2. 275/70 18 Cooper AT3 XLT. Love the set up but still get rub at full lock.

I have 5100s all around using the factory springs for about six months. They are on the middle setting and the truck is pretty much level. The ride is firm and holds its positioning around turns. It is night and day better than the stock set up. That being said I have noticed that it does not take the potholes in lovely Massachusetts as nice as I would prefer. I was just about to pull the trigger today on the FOX TRD pro front set up from Sparks parts. I heard, from here, that the ride is great on pavement and you get two inch lift. My truck is a pavement princess with a little dirt roads in New Hampshire. I want something simple and reliable thats basically plug and play. I have 18" TRD pro wheels with Falken wild peaks 275/70 that had some rubbing at full turn. A little bending of the skid plate fixed it.

Tuff Country 2" Level spacer Kit up front Paired with KYB Mono Max shocks all around. Roadmaster Active Suspension HD kit 1mm gap 275/70R18 Falken Wildpeak A/T3W mounted on some MB352 18X9 + 25 Cobra 19DXIV CB radio.
Here is mine with 5100's middle setting F&R. (Both pics are 5100's)
Decent set up had about 60k on them before changing to KYB Mono Max with a spacer kit.
These shocks / spacers ride stiff and harsh. they make the bed bounce more than normal.
They had good reviews on towing as I tow a 22' TT as why I got them.
I will probably run OME next run and upgrade rear springs also.

Zero- based on your recommendation, followed by a bit of research, I got the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLTs.

I got the shocks done at the same time, but I can report that the combo so far is great.

    Thank you for the suggestion!

Awesome!! What shocks did you go with? Those tires are way whiter than you thought huh?

what is your impression of the KYB Mono Max rear shocks? I'm needing new rears and considering these; I'm all stock, will often times carry a lot of weight for short periods and some light towing; when heavy now I feel the rear bouncing; I don't like a stiff ride though.
