Removed backseat for fridge. There is also a constant 12v plug here to power it. I built this box out of 100% recycled wood and made it where I can still use the storage compartments. This created a nice little storage area above the compartments as well.

Finished my lights this evening. I wanted a switch at the rear that I could turn on at anytime but I also wanted one up at the front so that I could turn it on/off when sleeping. Also put a dimmer on them up front so that I could have some soft light after dusk.

I’m thinking, we could take turns copying the offending interlopers’ posts into any random 2nd or 3rd gen thread (whatever the offender’s generation), along with a related-to-that-thread-except-that-ours-is-a-1st-gen comment.

Anyway, at least the guys that chimed in with a non-1st-gen truck offered pretty good truck bed set-ups, kind of on-topic.

I have wanted to do this for a long time. An unlimited spring fed hot shower sounds pretty great.

 

Honestly that’s be awesome. If I had a bigger camper I’d do it for sure.
Right now it’s the RoadShower or a nearby river.

 

I have an 8awg wire ran from my battery to behind my driver taillight and I mounted a small fuse box back there. Any connections inside the shell are ran through that harness that you see in the pic. It’s just some misc male/female 18 pin harness. One side of the harness goes to the taillight cavity and the other to anything I wanna put in the shell. That way all I have to do is unplug that harness and the shell is ready to take off.

Right now I’m only using 4 wires in it, 2 for the leds and 2 for my third brake light.

 

Im pretty sure Jose Wong on Facebook has this setup. He extended the heater core line to go through the hot side of the plate chiller and mounted it under the hood. Last I saw it was still working beautifully.

 

That's right up there with a waterbed and mirrored ceiling...watch that first step if you get up at night though.

LEDs are much less blue than they look. My garage can lights are like 2700k.

 

Did you play around with putting the mount up front for the bike? That is kind of what I am thinking.

What do you plan to do for a mattress?

 

I do, but I’ll redo it at some point because it’s a PITA. I carry water in a Roadshower; use the on-board compressor to pressurize. I carry a portable water heater that attaches to a peg on the side of my rack; the main research was finding one that requires very low water pressure and only pulls/ heats water on demand, so I can conserve the little bit I carry.

Considerations I have that most people don’t have to worry about is the dynamic weight of the water at high speeds (jumping, hard landings, etc.)... and protecting the components from impact damage as everything not completely secured in the bed (and secured or padded within its container) gets tossed and broken.

I chose the 7 gallon Roadshower and affixed it with two ratchet straps to the front of the bed at the base, where it fits my 1st gen well, and my 2 spares are mounted behind it. A bit of room remains on both sides, good for fastening other equipment placed lengthwise in the bed, between the spares and the bedsides. I can see that the front wall of the bed has bowed forward toward the cab as a result of the weight. Friends with later gens fit 3 of the blue square heavy plastic water containers in the same location; that shape would probably disperse the weight better— not damage the front wall— but would require I move the spares backward.

After repeatedly breaking all “heavy duty” plastic containers each trip, I’ve started moving to Condition 1 cases with cubed pick-apart foam inside; then customize the foam to protect breakable gear... my water heater and my camp coffee gizmos (worth it for good coffee that’s accessible without opening the magical, puzzle-like Tardis that is my kitchen box, when it’s someone else’s turn to cook).

This system works ‘ok’ but requires that I pressurize the Waterport before every shower— I have an onboard compressor, so it’s not terrible, but I’m working on a better option....

 

I’d love to see you do a separate build thread to make it easy to find. This compartmentalization is looking really good!

 

Not sure what you mean. Here is the bike loaded using the fork mount. Works out really well.

 

Neat. Do you slide the board in with the bike attached?

 

Yup. I ended up putting a stop blocks at the end of the drawer and cabinet so that the board doesn’t tip backwards when I’m attaching it. And honestly, it slides really easy. Even without drawer slides. I’m still going to put 3-4 good solid coats of Helmsman on it though to be sure it holds up.

How long does it take you to get a shower with this setup? Setup time and what not.

That makes way more since than trying to wrestle a bike while you are in the shell.

 

I drive out of site of shared camp. Then about 10 minutes as long as I’ve got everything I need at hand. Charging the water pressure; prepping a towel and clean clothes, placing a bucket and a teak tile to stand on, hooking up fittings.

And this should be done end of day, not morning, because I don’t want to stow the water heater while still it’s still wet.

A buddy showed me a pump he has that’s from an RV supply. It’s big and will require new storage, but I’m exploring options.
