So I have a 2020 Tundra crewmax with the TRD off-road package plus and the SR5 upgrade package. Has the Bilstein shocks and Michelin LTX A/T2 18 inch tires. My wife unit absolute hates how much the truck bounces and has to take dramamine for any longer ride in it. It doesn't bother me at all but I am going to end up with one of the new 2021+ magnaride/air ride Suburbans if I can't get this truck to ride better.

I've seen an active suspension kit online and would like to hear opinions on one of those or any other ideas you guys have. Bed weight? Different shocks? Air bags? Anyone have success in this department with our trucks?

Ride smoothness boils down to shocks and spring rate, so basically you're looking at replacing both. It all depends on how much you're willing to spend.

I can't help with the Tundra but can tell you my truck came with the TRD off-road package like yours and my wife's Yukon XL Denali with magneride/air suspension rode way worse. After being told it needed its 3rd set of magneride shocks ($1,500 per set plus labor) in 100k miles I replaced the magneride crap with Fox coilovers and the ride improved significantly. It also gave me about 2.5" of lift in front so it no longer scrapes its chin on parking curbs... $80,000 4x4 SUV with 6" of ground clearance.... :annoyed:

Ride is something your going to get 100s of different opinions on.

What rides well for one, doesn't for another.

IMHO I would post your location and see if we have any members nearby willing to give you a ride in different setups.

If you want to pick someone's brain, Erick or Jay with @state48overland have helped a lot of people get their rides dialed in.

Probably should not have purchased a pickup truck if you wanted the smoothest ride. Pickup trucks are meant to tow and haul, so are sprung for loads which means unloaded they ride harder. You are probably better off with the mag ride chevy you are considering.

Now now, its not impossible to make a truck ride smooth AF, but there's always a tradeoff and quite a bit of $ involved.

I'm actually kinda amazed to hear of a rough ride. I owned a 2013 F150 SuperCab prior to my 2020 Tundra; and the Tundra rides smooth as hell in comparison. I mean, it's not a Cadillac, but it easily rides better than any other truck I've owned.

You may be better off with stock SR5 suspension rather than the TRD shocks. I thought the TRD felt bouncier in test drives.

    Have you checked tire pressure?

My TRD sport rides like a dream, even after adding Bilstein 5100's to the front. Maybe look for some sport package shocks and add the sway bars.

I'm in the same boat. I was surprised how smooth the TRD Off Road shocks felt but I usually have a load in the bed. Adding/upgrading the sway bars definitely made it harsher.

Tested the '21 sport, and it hugged the corners more, but was a lot more boaty and bumpy. Don't know if it was the shocks or the tires. GF even said it made her a bit sick from a bit of body roll.

Took home the '21 off-road. Felt a lot better on road, took bumps better, and after adding the RSB it is like a rocket through corners now. Best of both worlds for me.

The off-road should not be so bouncy that she's sick. I've never seen a vehicle that takes big winter bumps better, outside of maybe a vintage caddy.

Before you trade for a Chevy you should take her for a ride in a TRD Pro. I've never been in one, but many reviewers say they have the softest ride of all of the Tundra's. If that works trade trucks or just add the Pro springs/shocks.

Disagree. The RSB makes it roll less, but not bounce more harshly.

Drop tire pressure some and add some weight in the bed.

Sounds like the offroad shocks are rolling too much. Sport shocks and sway bar ride great. Test drive one. If she doesnt like it, then go ahead and go for the Suburban as I doubt you will get this truck to her liking.

Body roll improved significantly for me, bounce is slightly more noticeable but not unbearable. My wife is prone to motion sickness too but she loves riding in the Tundra.

I skipped some. I think you guys missed the part where I said MY WIFE is complaining about the ride. I have driven M915s and M1151s etc I could care less about the ride but happy wife=happy life.

Does anyone have any experience with loading the bed to smooth it out and how much weight you used? Can try something like that as a temp to see if it helps the wife's issue.

How much weight do you think and what tire pressure have you guys had success with?

tires are sitting at 37/38 psi and I could add weight in 50 pound increments just grab some battery cartridges from my next UPS replacement and not recycle them right away to test.

    Rear sway bar

You have two main options that I know of: TRD or Hellwig (3 settings adjustable)

Cheapest easiest fix is throw some weight in the bed up against the tailgate. Sand bags. About 200-300 lbs will help it out.

I have a 2020 Platinum and I replaced my stock rear “soft” shocks with the Bilsteins that you have and I really can’t notice the difference. I guess it’s a little harsher around town but great on highway. You don’t have that bouncy floating feel. I would definitely add the TRD sway bar and not look back. The truck will plant better and not feel like it’s all over the road. It’s the best $200 you can spend on ride improvement. Also I think you have too much air pressure. Factory calls for 33 in the rear and 30 upfront. I know that seems low but it will soften the ride as well

You might only have one in the front. The rear you have to install.

The rear sway bar made a big difference in body roll especially on tight turns. The front sway bar would be an upgrade to a heavier thicker bar. If you are thinking about it get the rear before upgrading the front. The rear made 75% improvement while the front upgrade made 25%.

If stock tires and smooth ride is desired I’d run stock pressure. Think my door says 33psi. Tell your wife to gain some weight to help out. Omg sorry. Maybe just more women?
