4.88 Nitro Gears. King coil overs and rears with remote resi and a pedal commander throttle control. AFE cold air intake. RSI Smartcap and GFC supernate 50.
Hey y’all! Should I go with 4.88? What will it help me with? Will it actually reduce wear on my tranny and diffs? Not worried about mpg impact! I’ve got a 2019 5.7 with an age power intake, 34.1” tires on 20s. I’m going to go 18s and 34.5-35” tires when my current set up is done. I don’t tow a ton but when I do it’s canoe and kayak trailers with 10-12 boats. I’ve got @DECKEDUSA drawers and a rsi smart cap. In total probably 400lbs (depending on what’s in the drawers) constantly on the back. I’ve got king suspension and coach builder kit so I’m level there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Most do not regear for 35s. It will perform better with the regear to bring it back to stock gearing but gear swaps are expensive. Even with the MPG and performance improvement you would never recoup your cost of the gear change over time. Now 37in tires, need to regear.

So, some have done gears for 35s, most here have not. If $ is no issue, then yes, regear- it will drive and perform better.

If you can afford it, your truck will drive with the pep of stock and you’ll enjoy it more

It's going to be about $2000 at a good, honest shop to regear.

Yeah, 4.88 will be nice with 35s or larger. I would also recommend getting a Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator to adjust for tire size/gearing.

I am running 5.29s on 34.3x11.5 tires. Also installed an LSD at the same time. It has way more get up and go and made towing my 26 foot camper a lot easier, around 6-6500lb loaded. I did 529 because I was going up in tire size, the plan was only 35s, but the truck is actually in the shop today and tomorrow getting 37s.
Yes the RPMs will be higher and my mpg dropped slightly, less than 0.5mpg, but the engine load dropped considerably. The 37s may actually bring my MPG up slightly after I recalibrate my speedo again

For your application I wouldn't bother.

I'm on 37's (4.30gears) and regularly commute 350mi one way with 400-500lbs of gear/ tools/ materials in my bed.

I've been doing this for nearly 20k miles with no ill effects. Currently at 117k mi on odometer.

    YMMV.....

also with new gears make sure the shop installing knows how to install. Plenty of bad stories here after a gear swap.
for 35's I would skip the regear
