35x10.50R17LT Kenda Klever Tires...Anyone try these??

I'm in the market soon for new tires and haven't seen anyone running these yet on a Toyota.
From my understanding, they're kinda new still, just wondering if anyone has any experience with these on stock Toyota rims?

This size has sparked my interest! Nice and tall for a tall stance and more clearance but a lot narrower than 12.5, so lighter, less drag, and easier to make fit without tons of trimming or big obnoxious spacers. Cool! If you get them let us know how they are. A quick search yields good reviews it seems.

 

35x10.50 would be sweet. I've had great luch with Kenda's in the past, just not this pattern.
Curious to see what people think about them.

 

I just had the Klever AT2’s installed. Mine are 18’s. Only have aboit 1000 miles on them but so far I like them. Especially for the price.

 

Just called Kenda and the 35x10.5 weight 68 pounds each. That is really heavy and you can get several 285 75 R18s for much lighter weight if that matters.

 

Surprisingly it's only 1 or 2 pounds lighter than 35x12.5 with similar tread.

I think the attraction for first gens is how skinny they are. A 12.5 tire is a lot of work to properly fit (meaning you can turn and cycle suspension without hitting).

 

I agree. I bet Kenda built this size for older Tundra's and Tacoma owners in mind to avoid trimming and cutting. Seems like an awesome tire all around.

 

Yup, that was me.

I’ve been eye balling these tires for over a year. I knew I wanted a skinny 33” so I googled 33x9.50 and Kenda popped up. It wasn’t a 9.50 but in a 10.50. I immediately liked the sidewall and tread pattern. The closer lugs meant a quieter ride and the aggressive sidewall reminded me of military tires. I started researching them but they were so new, there wasn’t a ton of information out there.

Fast forward to now, there is more information/reviews but still not much. This was about the best one I could find along with some guys on TacoWorld that have liked them.

I was still on the fence with the Kendas and Cooper AT3 XLT’s. A few days before I was going to make the order, a Durango pulled up next to me at a stop light with Kendas. They looked badass and I rolled down my window to hear them and they were quiet. That sealed the deal for me. I pulled the trigger on some and got a full set of 33x10.50R17 Kenda for $664 shipped (eBay) and some Vision Manx 17x8.5” +0 wheels for $534 shipped (Amazon).









My previous tires were 265/75/16 Goodyear duratracs. Admittedly, I was worried how they were going to balance being a ‘cheap Chyna tire’ even though they are made in Taiwan. Discount tire had no issues balancing them and they only took 3oz or less of weight per tire. My duratracs took more weight to balance.

I only have about 200 or so miles on them but I’ve been impressed. They fit with no problem and I have zero rubbing anywhere. These aren’t the type of tires that are “good for what you pay.” They handle well, are much quieter than my duratracs and feel like they have better traction in the snow. They are even quieter than my Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my Duramax. Even if the Kendas were double what I paid, I would still be happy. I don’t know what to expect for tread wear but I imagine they will be a 40k-60k tire. I specifically picked the 33x10.50 over the 285/70 because they are .5” skinnier and the 33’s came with 19/32 of tread vs the 285’s with 17/32’s. Sorry for rambling but that has been my experience so far. I say go for it!

 

I thought the same when I saw yours, the sidewall looks like its from a military truck. They are a good looking tire and the tread looks way meatier in the pics you posted.

 

My thoughts as well. The online pictures really don’t do them justice. If you google them and find actual pictures of them on vehicles, they look much better. I’ll snag a few more today.

I'll break from the group and say tires are one thing I won't try to save money on. I typically try to get one of the best tires I can. I also don't buy tires online. By the time you factor in mounting and balancing it's typically cheaper for me to go to Discount Tire and I get free rotations. Also, I'm not a fan of how those look.

 

I’m with ya on some of those points. I like to keep my business local and I always get my tires from DT. They beat internet prices and come with lifetime rotations/balancing so it’s hard to beat. I also try to get the best or newest for tires. Hell, my ridge grapplers on my Duramax were $420 a piece... ouch.

For the tundra, I was set on a tall skinny setup because I didn’t want any clearance issues with the wheels I picked. I did check with DT on some 255/80/17’s but didn’t like any. BFG does make a KO2 in a 33x10.50 but I didn’t care for them on my work trucks. I decided to gamble on these and I’m sure glad I did.

You always hear horror stories on internet tires about them being old stock, blems, left overs, etc. The Kendas I received were manufactured 10/2020 and like I said, they balanced better than my duractracs and probably better than my ridge grapplers but I’d have to look. I’ve only purchased internet tires one other time prior to this. It was on my old Silverado and I was set on the Atturo MT’s. Again, I checked with DT and they did not offer that brand (at the time). They also advised me about internet tires and atturo being an off brand etc. About a year later, we were in there getting tires on another vehicle and the GM came up to me. He said “remember those atturos you asked about and we told you to stay away from? Well guess what, we are dealer for them now lol.” Not to say this is going to be the case for these Kendas but I wouldn’t be shocked if more places start offering them and the price goes up. For me, it was sizing and then pricing. As I said earlier, I would have paid $1200 for these and still been happy. Pricing isn’t always everything as long as you do your research. As always, YMMV.

They won’t be able to because it is a tire/brand they don’t offer. There are a lot of local, small business tire shops that’s do sell them though, at least in my area.

I opted for the Nitto as they are a branch of Toyo. But my coworker has the Kendas and so far he likes them. Kenda has actually been around for a long while making tires as stated above for ATV and Motorcycles. Hope their first run in automotive goes well but as like anything the longer its out there if its good the price will go up.

 

I say give them a try. Great size option. They are not a top tier brand, but I have run some off brand tires that I really liked in the past. They are probably not going to last 60k miles like some of the name brand ATs out there with tread warranties, but I am sure they are cheaper and probably surprise you with good performance.

 

My counterpart at work has 49,000 on them so far and plenty of tread left. They are more quiet than my Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Keep them rotated and make sure your ball joints and bearings are in good shape. Most people often complain about the tire when its the wheel assembly that's worn causing the tire to wear abnormally.

 

I like the look of those.

 

At least they're well known for making bicycle tires. I don't know how that translates to truck tires, though

I just wouldn't buy tires from Achilles...

 

Motor cycle tires require the same qualifications for operation on u.s. road ways.

 

My son has a set of Achilles ATR 2 sports on his mustang. 20k trouble free miles so far. Tires look good and perform well.
