Lots of towing...need some help

    My '12 just hit 76,000 miles and I'm starting to notice the suspension is softening so I think it's time to address it.

    It's a work truck and I tow a crapload and spend a lot of time on the highway so I don't think I'm looking for a lift or even leveling.

    I just want something robust that will last a while. I imagine the answer is 5100s. Is that all I need? Keep factory springs and leafs?

    So your shocks are most likely shot. Replace them with a Bilstein 4600, has lifetime warranty. I would not lift the truck an inch if it is a work/tow rig on a daily basis.

    These trucks can work hard, day in, day out for many years without a bunch of maintenance.

    Awesome thanks! Definitely don't care about lifting and it's under CPO warranty so I don't want to risk messing with that.

    Right on. I just called for a labor quote and the dude started ranting about struts so I hung up.

    You need two shocks for the rear, two Coilover shocks up front. Most people call them struts until @jberry813 schooled us all on the differences.

    Aesthetics aside, from what I can tell they're mechanically the same but the 5100 has a little more play in case it's used in conjunction with a lift.

    1-3" are most common, either by blocks or shackles, or both.

    The ones I would get. However, a well set up LDH should not need them.

    I think you misunderstood my question. You say the 5100s in the rear will give a "small lift". What do folks with 5100s in the rear typically see as a "small lift"?

    no, what @ColoradoTJ is saying is the rear 5100s don't give you any lift, but they can be used when you have a little lift in the rear, via blocks, shackles, and/or custom leaf packs

    Now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and get new springs/leafs with the shocks so I can just overhaul it all at the same time and not have to worry about it for a while.

    If so, just the OEM from sparks or something?
