Tundra for RAM?

Some trucks pull the chrome accents off better than others, the higher end F-250 trims with chrome look really good to me

 

I actually like the Tundras with some chrome , I think they pull it off just as good as the higher end big 3’s .

 

This is a fairly gross misuse of statistics and wild misunderstanding of why reliability is so often suspect in many vehicles.

Toyota has used the same engine in every tundra since 2007 (more or less). Meanwhile US manuf switch engine every few years, offer 3+ engines in the same model year, and never have a chance to "work out the kinks." Further, Toyota met stupid CAFE standards for fleet MPGs by selling so many Priuses (Priiii?) and not screwing with the big engines. Meanwhile domestics are trying to squeeze every drop of efficiency out of all their engines because they couldn't launch a hybrid worth a shit until well after Toyota dominated the market, and they adopted enginer tech without regard for durability of that technology.

It's far, far beyond just "oh well, its a similar failure rate." There are some local dealers that are seeing 80-90% of service work being warranty work right now. It's absolutely insane how much shit gets fixed after purchase.

 

There is one long term quality index rating that you should check out. 4 years and running for all makes and models of vehicles.

Toyota's rating is based on 270k inspected Toyotas.
Ford’s rating is based on 290k inspected Fords.

Spend some time at the site, and you’ll see that the idea that “Toyota has fewer issues because they make fewer trucks” is totally bunk.

 

Wow honda is a lot lower than one would expect

 

Looking at the other vehicles that are supposedly above industry average - other than Scion and Honda - makes me seriously question the accuracy of these data.

Like Hummer? They’re full-size vehicles made by GM. GM’s full size vehicles are the most reliable models they make (look at the trucks and suburbans, etc). And didn’t they quit making Hummers before GM really started complicating things? Also, there’s an extremely small number of vehicles inspected (7k vs 270k for Toyota).

 

I had an ‘89 Accord that went 200k and still drove like new. But these days it seems different. Everyone I know with an Odyssey or Pilot has had transmission issues. A drummer friend of mine gets a new one every 80k miles because the trans went out on his first one at 80k. Kinda funny.

 

Interesting. My wife’s pilot is starting to make timing belt(or chain haven’t looked it up yet) noise when it’s cold. 70k miles it seems a little early

 

That list is posted all over the Toyota dealers up here. I remember looking over it when we were shopping.

How is Nissan so low and Infinity so high? Not surprised about Nissan being towards the bottom but don't they make infinity?

 

My neighbor a Ram, Jeep salesman asked if I ever considered a ram. After politely answering no he said "good because you're much better off in that tundra"

oh and im a mopar guy who wouldnt buy a ram for a daily driver.

 

I have a 19 F250, and I am debating swapping out the wall of chrome. What trims did you like, as I want to check them out as I might have missed some other options. Here is a pic of mine. I had the emblem painted white and I still feel like it is missing something.

 

See if you can snag some tremor take offs. Or lariat sport package take offs.

Thanks for the links. That’s 3x as many Rams as Tundras inspected (34k Rams vs 12k Tundras). But I dont think they use total number of issues as a metric to rate the vehicles. It’s how many issues pop up as a percentage of each model’s total number of vehicles inspected.

Also, looking at each model page, it seems they’re placing a high value on how long people keep that particular model. This could help explain why some of the rarer (Hummer) and more luxury (Infiniti) vehicles have higher ratings.

 

Wow sorry not trying to stir the pot I wanted info on these stats. I was making up the scenario based on sales numbers I had reviewed not to be taken as facts in my scenario. I believe Toyota has lower rates thats proven by the simplistic design. Im not knocking it, I am agreeing with it in many ways. I was just curious as to thought process behind the most reliable vehicles. Toyota with detuned engines and less gimmicks has proven if its not broken “don’t fix it” and possibly make it worse.( but then removed a trans cooler from a truck that honestly benefited from it in 2019 tundras)
Not spreading miss information it was a fake scenario. I just think alot of fixes on other vehicles are probably from the extreme overload of technology and electronics that honestly plague most new shiny toys. I just wish Toyota was not so far behind on the technology sometimes. Its hard to find that middle where its great to have safety features but now cars drive themselves practically and thats a bit scary as alot of people cant drive anyways.

 

Yours looks good to me! The king ranch and platinum both have a tasteful amount of chrome

 

In this attachment just for instance if you combine all gm products under one bar, would it create a new stat that may compete with quality standards or even combining not only gm products but other products like honda and accura etc. just at a glance it starts to look a bit different lumping products made by the same company really into one stat. Im just weighing options and I am grateful for information!

 

Why is Honda higher than Acura?

 

That might have to do with the demographic who drives them. When I was in college, every red blooded guy I knew who had an Acura ran it HARD. And sure there are lots of guys who drive their Civics hard, too, but there are a lot of soccer moms driving Odysseys/Pilots and (neutered grandma-men driving Ridgelines hahahaha ) to offset the Civic racers.

Just speculating though.

 

Consumer Reports thinks it's because luxury cars have more tech and other high end features like that, which aren't very reliable.

This is the one I’ve seen , no surprise that the Tundra is ranked #1 but I didn’t think the Titan would be that high

 

Should mention that my Tundra and F250 have same amount of miles, about 15k. Tundra hasnt been back to the dealer whereas the F250 didnt even make it home on its maiden voyage. And has been in the shop now a few times for various smog and electrical issues. Its a neccessary evil though as it tows like a scalded ape, completely stress free towing as far as power and stability is concerned. I dont have to plan routes to avoid big passes or high wind areas. But it wont ever be a lifetime truck, too much to go wrong.

 

My brother is a Titan/Armada guy. Has had a few of each. He is one of those buy high mileage and run them into the ground guys. Has been built proof except for rear diffs on the earlier ones, if I remember correctly. He beats on them and tows well above their rated amounts too
