Getting ready to replace my 285/70/18 RG's that are worn. Looking for opinions on staying with the RGs or going with the Toyo AT 3's. Also, if I move up to the 295, would I notice any hit in mpg since I'm already on 285’s? The current 285’s are 59 lbs, the 295 RG's are 69 lbs, and the Toyo 295’s are 62 lbs. Just trying to make the best choice since tires are expensive.

In the exact same boat. I am going with the Toyo due to the actual size and weight vs the Nitto (and Falken and BFG)

I've recently switched to Toyo AT3's 295/70r18s, previously had Ridge Grapplers in 285/70r18's and have no regrets. Probably took a small hit in mpg but only noticeable when towing in hilly terrain. Have about 10k currently on them and hardly showing any wear. Liking them a lot, plus they're snow rated.20201218_222015.jpg

Yeah I didn't think the mpg would change much from a 285 to the 295. Did the 295 look any bigger to you?

I run the 295/70/18 AT2 from Toyo. They are good AT. I will probably switch to KM3s when I go up to 35's

It filled the frt wheel well up a little more, but overall not a huge difference imo.

Never had AT3’s, but absolutely love my Ridge Grapplers in 295/70. I went down to around 13-something MPG highway from 18.5-19 MPG highway with the 275/65R18’s that came with the truck. I don’t drive much for city miles, so I don’t have an accurate figure.

Check out the Yokohama Geolander X at. I’ve had mine for a month now and am very happy with their performance on dirt and snow. Very quiet EECC7973-BACA-4F31-A80D-10C4DD25D50A.jpg

I also went from Ridge Grapplers to Toyo AT 3 with absolutely no regret. The RG’s got so loud that I grew to hate them. I also moved up to 295/70 from the old 285/65. Haven’t really noticed much change in mpg.

Just swapped my RGs 285/65/18 for Toyo at3s in 295/70/18.
I went back and forth deciding since I liked the RGs and had no complaints but the little weight difference won out. It’s only been a week but around town I was getting 13.6 with the smaller tire and am about 13 with the new ones. I have a pedal commander and it is at sport 2 the same as it was with the old size. Got to try them out in the snow last week and the wet after it melted and they did great

I went with Bridgestone A/T Revo 3, max load per tires 4,080 lbs and just weight 54 lbs.

I’m in the same boat I’m going from RG to the AT3’s my grapplers started getting loud around 35k miles and we just put the AT3’s on my wife’s 4Runner and so far like the looks and the ride

So I called today and the only thing available near me is the RG's in the 295/70/18. I probably wouldn't see much difference in mpgs since I'm already running 285/70's according to them. I would think it would be very slight since they are 10 lbs per tire heavier. :notsure:

Took these pics this morning. The 285's look small for some reason and the 295 looks beefier in the 295 tire thread but they aren't much bigger.

Not sure if it's brand/model specific but in the Nitto RGs the difference between the two sizes is a 1/4", that wasn't worth it to me for an additional 10 lbs

Yeah I'm supposed to get the 295's on Monday but I may just cancel.

Weight wise the Cooper AT3 XLT wins. Plus it’s tread warranty is the best out of all of them. Second is the Toyo AT. I’ve had both. They are 99 percent identical. If you want the weight the Cooper is the answer. Toyo strong second. RG is too heavy. If you really are worried about weight, go to a 17 inch wheel also and you can save almost 20 pounds total with the smaller wheel and the tire combined.

If that’s not an option the Cooper is almost identical to the Toyo.

Yeah I was looking at the Toyo AT3's. IIRC, they weigh 62 pounds. My 285 RG's are 59 pounds.

If I stay with the 285, I'm stuck getting RG's again, in which I'm used to the current mpgs. If I move to the 295 RG's, the only thing I'm really gaining is weight. No idea how that extra 40 lbs affects mpg. The 295 Toyos would be slightly taller and the weight with that size probably wouldn't affect anything.
