Hello all so my 1st tundra was a 2019 5.7 SR5 and I started out with a magnaflow catback which sounded as if it was stock, so I ended up switching out the muffler for a supper 44 dual in dual out and was very happy!! Now I have a 2021 TRD sport and decided not to install my current catback because I would need to remove my spare which I wasn't to thrilled about, so after weeks and many threads I decided to purchase a trd catback and honestly I couldn't be any happier with the sound and the way the truck runs (maybe in my head) so I read all the threads stating I would lose low end torque but I figured since I'm not racing or towing anything I would be ok and to be honest I'm glad I went this route. I do have 1 question and something I honestly couldn't find answered in any threads here but if having the trd exhaust really makes our tundra suffer than why does toyota sell the trd pro with the exhaust already on? I was scratching my head for those weeks wondering if toyota had a reason maybe a tune that they install on the pros to not suffer any low end torque or they can care less and just sell the pros that way? Just doesn't make any sense to me that Toyota would sell the pros knowing they would suffer in performance. Educate me please if I'm missing something here. Anyways did I say I was happy with the outcome of the trd exhaust :)

Congrats. The TRD system is great, I have it on mine.

No idea about the loss of low end torque. I do not notice any difference in power. Keith at dirtydeeds has extensive knowledge in this area and says there is and I do believe him.

Back to the TRD system, do you have the chrome tips or black chrome tips? My current tundra has the black chrome and honestly I am not a fan. They are a pain to keep clean. The chrome tips on my previous tundra were much easier to keep clean.

The sound gets better the longer the system is in place, mines at a year and half and sounding better than when it was new.

Your gas mileage will decrease as you will be foot heavy LOL..

    Enjoy your truck.

I was originally set on upgrading to the TRD dual exhaust but ended up with the BA 8” SS system and love it. I have never driven a TRD Pro so I don’t know what if any differences there are. My 2019 seemed to be more responsive with the BA muffler (could just be in my head because of the sound feedback). In any event I love the way the truck drives and sounds.

Here’s a good video that might help explain more the differences in single vs dual exhausts.

I had the TRD exhaust (did some modifications to it - documented in a separate thread) - now run a 12 inch single DD exhaust.

The TRD does have low end torque loss (due to the divorced dual setup), but it’s most noticeable lugging in 6th gear in the 50 to low 60 mph range. The single outlet OEM or DD will be able to stay in 6th lugging up an incline or gently increasing speed in that range most of the time, whereas the TRD may need to downshift into 5th. That was my experience. I got rid of mine because of the choppy helicopter sound - not because I was bothered by the low end torque loss.

You won’t notice anything (torque loss wise) accelerating from a dead stop. The TRD does have noticeably stronger pull in the mid to top range compared to stock.

I ended up going with black chrome because I just think they look so beautiful... lol I just hope I don't struggle keeping them clean like you say but than again I have a black truck so I already have trouble keeping it clean.

On another note do we know if the trd pros come with a tune from Toyota so they won't suffer in performance?

    Thanks guys!

Doubt the pros come with a tune.
