My 2018 won’t turnover. I bought it new. Had to jump it yesterday after driving it the day before now won’t start today. The truck has had a few recalls. Now with less than 20k miles it won’t start. Bought into Toyota quality but beginning to think it’s a myth.

Wow, so it won't start, then yes you should certainly trade it in for a Chevy, Dodge or Ford. Trade in values are high so I am sure you will get good deal.

And Rex is correct, it probably needs a new battery. Factory batteries (for any vehicle) generally last about 3 years, if you get more than that consider yourself lucky. So you are due for a battery replacement.

Sure sounds like a dead battery. Selling it, if that is indeed the issue, seems a bit extreme.

Thanks for the info everyone. I expected more from the battery. It just seems to not have quite enough power- gives the fast clicking but not enough to turnover. I bought the truck new middle Sept 2018.

And it’s not just the battery. It’s a third gen tundra with 3 to 4 recalls. I don’t want this to be a regular thing.

What are the recalls? Anything that's actually serious or stuff like "dim turn signals"?

Sounds like you have some other frustrations but as said above it's probably the battery. I'm not sure how many recalls you have had but they did make a few changes in 18 so you got the guinea pig year.

I wasn't happy with my 13 Tundra and traded it in for a Sierra with all the bells and whistles. Huge mistake. The recalls were a regular occurrence and it started having electrical gremlins about 6 months in. Got rid of it and when I needed a truck again I came back to a Tundra.

Hopefully a battery fixes you up.

ANY vehicle you buy will more than likely have recalls and I’m sure you understand that batteries are disposable items. You can get that replaced under warranty but the batteries they use are junk so I would suggest just buying a better battery.
I’m curious, you are considering unloading the most reliable half ton on the market due to a probable dead battery. What vehicles have you owned before this Tundra?

I have an ‘18 as well. I also had a stock battery pooch, I live in a cold climate and its expected. I replaced it.
And had the 2018 ‘recalls’ which consisted of two electronic plug-in reflashes, a gasket for the TSS emblem, and the turn signal brightness fix which didn't affect mine and all took all of an hour to fix.
Half the people on here have already heard it but my 2017 work Chevy just had a full transmission replacement, fried wire harness, starter failure, random lights burning out, phantom squeaks I cannot friggin find, and various other shit amounting to over $10k in repairs. But at least the battery still works!
I keep telling my husband to trade his Tundra. Its gonna go any minute with the 300k trouble-free miles on it. Tundras are garbage.:rofl::rofl:

I had a Toyota battery last eight years in my old 05 Tacoma 4ltr. Take it to Advance Auto or AutoZone and have your battery tested. And who doesn't enjoy a little "Flashing"?

I have my original battery in a 2016, is this a ticking time bomb?!
    :boom:

OP - On a more serious note, was any of the recalls more than just a basic thing that was handled during an oil change?

Hilarious and wow, at the same time. Can't tell if you are serious or just trying to play us. If you are serious, get a new battery and drive your truck. If you are playing us, funny.

I get it - you pay a lot for a Tundra, not for any particularly outstanding capability, but for the reputation of quality. Proponents of Toyota are tremendously committed to that reputation, because without that, it would be an expensive error in judgement. Although a history of shitty factory batteries doesn't help belief in Toyota's comittment to quality, various publications do recognize Toyota's broader reliability, so reasonably speaking, something like replacing a battery relatively early is far more likely than a major repair. So that's something!

I agree that it's likely the battery, as an issue with the alternator ought to have thrown a code. Personally, I would have been looking for a solution after having to boost it the first time, because unless you left an accessory running overnight that drained the battery, that is the warning sign that your charging system is in trouble.

Ultimately, selling or not selling is a question of whatever makes you happiest. I phrase it that way, because considering decisions in terms of "what makes you less unhappy" seems like a terrible way to go through life, in the same way that saying "the tundra is the least bad pickup truck" sounds like a fundamentally miserable perspective. I think vehicles can become a part of a person's identity, which seems like a triumph of marketing - drive whatever you enjoy!

An wear items like batteries, brakes, air filters, wiper blades, tires, etc,....have nothing to do with reliability. It is the owners responsibility to ensure wear items are good and performing appropriately.
