The Ultimate Headlight H4, Fog Light and Revers Light Upgrade Not LED or HID 1st Gen Tundra Addition

Yeah I was surprised for sure to see how bad it really was. The left light had significantly melted the lens, but the right one burnt that big hole. The Zevos are definitely much brighter than the stock bulbs and light up the bed much better.

 

Makes a huge difference.

 

Headlight and fog light Upgrade complete. Underwhelming during the day, but the light seems to be a brighter white color compared to the bulbs that were in there before. Will have to see the difference tonight.

Harness appeared to be of decent quality materials. Assembled very cleanly.


New bulbs are 100/80w compared to the old 60/55w. Aiming properly will be crucial.

Very unscientific trimming of the new 9012's was achieved by using a post-it note to make an impression of the 9006 tab shape, cutting it out and transferring to the 9012 bulb. A dremel was used to make the modification.


The forward most fender bolt was chosen as the ground location for the harness on each side. Mostly out of convenience.

A wire brush was used to clean up the holes and expose some bare metal. Disclaimer: if you live in the salt belt, this mod will cause your front fender to eventually rust and fall off.

Ran the ground wire through the headlight opening. Just 'cause.

New harness attached. Had to seperate the wire looms as they were all taped together at the relay end in order to have enough slack. Will eventually mount the relays (who am I kidding, unless it gives me problems it will remain this way for ever)

I tell myself the same on a lot of wiring projects. I say it again when I notice them later. One of these days when I have nothing to do I'll clean it up, but I have not had such a day in ten years.

Imagine some small yellow colored dimly lit areas in front of the truck as if someone were holding an old coal miners oil lamp. That's where we started. The bulbs were solid Osram German bulbs. But just dim and pitiful. Need to polish the headlight housings or replace them again. The fogs are a little "foggy" as well. I believe they are glass though. Need a good polishing as well.

 

Yeah I don't miss when my headlights were stock. When luxury cars would drive by on the freeway I would wonder if my lights were even on.

 

Just did a cursory polish of the headlights and fog lights with some rubbing compound. They are certainly clearer now than before. The UV coating on the headlight housing has started to degrade. Might get me some new housings. Some of the ones with the black background, but not the smoked lens.

 

Looking nice and new. Not to long until dark now depending on where you are at.

 

Man, that after shot of the beams on the garage door looks horrible. Where's is the cut off line? I know we're not looking at projectors so I'm not expecting razor sharp cut off but that just doesn't look good. Are the bulbs seated correctly? On the H4, the tabs should align the bulb for you.

I assumed you had the high beams on. Some aftermarket housings are pretty terrible when it comes to cutoff. Let's wait until dark and look at it then. It will be easier to see what is going on.

 

Bulbs are seated correctly. These are aftermarket replacement housings. The truck is also pointing uphill towards the door and is really close to it in those pics. The aftermarket housing adjusters leave a lot to be desired. A little loose. Will need to adjust now that I have so much more powuh!

 

Can some one explain how this is supposed to work? I am not real sure I understand what I am looking at here.

 

The red arrow is pointing at the adjustment cam with a long Phillips Screw Driver down in there. Makes for easy adjusting!

 

So am I looking for a philips head in there? I guess I missed it. I will go look again in a bit.

 

There's a toothed wheel in there. The philips head acts like a gear to gear connection on the toothed wheel.

 

Every 1st Gen Tundra came with one. Look real hard and you’ll find it.

 

I find a 10mm ratcheting wrench entered from the side is much easier. I just quickly pop my turn signal housing out of the way. Turning that wheel towards the opposite side raises the headlight up. I was outside last night doing the same thing.

 

Swing by your local Harbor Freight and grab their 2 foot long Philips screwdriver. Lol. It's the official headlights adjustment tool.

 

Must be different for your 05. I don't see how a Phillips head would help me at all.

Much improved from my previous bulb setup, but could be brighter honestly. Doesn't compare the the HID projectors in my Wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. Lacks the definition if that makes sense. It's definitely brighter and for only $75, well worth it. Unless they burn out in 6 months.
